Cowpea has been granted environmental release, which means that the Nigeria Biosafety Agency has studied the data provided, sat down and looked at the
cowpea and confirmed that the beans is safe for human consumption and animal consumption, and also poses no serious danger to the environment.
Vouchers were used to redeem the seeds of staple crops like millet, sorghum and
cowpea as well as high-value cash crops like groundnut.
The crop residues used were [sup.15]N-labelled and unlabelled residues of
cowpea (Vigna unguiculata (L.) Walp.), a summer cover crop widely used in Southern Brazil.
Grain yield of
cowpea in the northeast region of Brazil is relatively low due to the low-cost technologies applied, with values ranging from 300 to 400 kg [ha.sup.-1] (Soares et al., 2006; Freire Filho et al., 2011).
Several insect pests feed on
cowpea causing significant damage at different phenological stages of the plant.
During the whole productive process, the
cowpea crop is attacked by several insects.
Mean comparison revealed that the greatest millet grain yield was obtained from plant sprayed with nano-iron at concentration of 3adeg and millet sole culture equals to 1021.33 kg ha-1 and the lowest millet grain yield was obtained from non-sprayed plant and 100% millet+20%
cowpea equals to 442.83 kg ha-1.The results of the experiment confirmed that nano-iron chelated was effective on intercropping of millet and
cowpea, so that plant sprayed at concentration of 3adeg had greatest morphological characteristics and yield of the both crops.
Even though black-eyed peas are more popular,
cowpea cultivars such as 'Big Red Ripper,' 'Whippoorwill,' 'Sea Island Red,' and 'Mississippi Silver' have more flavor, better texture, and richer character by far.
In spite of the significant contribution of
cowpea to the nutrition and food security in Ghana, yields and the production of the crop in the country are very low and continue to decline over the years.

cowpea [11], maize with
cowpea [16] and cassava with
cowpea [17]
