Diagnosis (2019)
I hope it helps.
I feel like there is something seriously wrong with our medical system. As an RN, I have always avoided medical shows because the doctors seem to be idiots. I cannot tell you how many times I'd scream a diagnosis at the TV within the 1st 5 mins of an episode of House. That being said, why did no one do testing on the group of illnesses that fit with her elevated CK and other symptoms? (I am not going to say what, because I don't want to give spoilers.) Did the doctors just run the basic labs and when it didn't fit, shrug and dismiss her? Or did she not have PCP due to a lack of insurance?
I work ED. The only thing EDs look at is, "Are you dying and how do we stabilize. Hospitalists, etc are also in the job of stabilizing and discharge. Your Primery care doctor is the one who would help you with the rest, and refer you to the specialists who would do further teating and then refer you to the to the next specialist. Her illness was not some unknown disease but something that should have been found earlier.
No doubt, her medical debt also made it hard for her to get any care but emergency care which would cost so much more than getting the proper referrals and treatment. THIS is why we need a better medical program. So much money could have been saved by the pt and hospitals if she'd gotten an answer sooner.
But what if your PCP doesn't know where to send you? Fall 2020 I started itching foe most of the month I am covered in scabs. I havs scars fro. Thw itching. Saw my PCP who referred me to an allergy doc. (Allergies were negative. ) And he referred me to Dermatology. They thought it might be progesterone hypersensitivity and referred me to. OGBYN. She started me on birth control despite me explaining that my symptoms do not fully fit in with an Estrogen hypersensitivity. Yes, I itched like crazY before my cycle, but also whem the estrogen level should be low. 6 months of strict tracking and fraphing symptoms, I reLized that I was hyper sensitive to BOTH estrogen and progesterone. The only thing that makea it feel better are when I've been on prednisone for asthma or other things. Otherwise, I am in itchy hell. I get a few days to a week during/after my period of less itching. It honestly feels like hives all over and I scratch until I bleed and then scratch some more because scratching doesn't relieve the itch. Fortunately, I should got into menopause in the next 5 years. Sorry, got side tracked, just was trying to point out that, if you don't have docs who actually want to answer the question of whay is wrong, you'll ended up having to do the work yourself. Also, not ideal.
I am hoping this show is helpful to those like the 1st girl.
Kaos (2024)
Fantastic. An unexpected Gem
Honestly didn't expect to like this as much as I did. So great to watch something that isn't a regurgitated remake or the overdone super hero/comic sludge. This was a well-written show that kept me on my toes. The music was perfectly arranged and the cast was spot on. Can not wait for season 2. I very much appreciate that we got some closure in season 1 but still anxiously waiting to see what happens next.
As someone who easily predicts plots, I was thrilled when I was wrong or, even if I was right, they made me work for it. Really loved this show.
My husband was confused during the 1st few episodes. He kept thinking he needed to understand mythology. He finally realized that he needed to let go of his hs mythology and just let the story unfold.
Take Care of Maya (2023)
THIS SHOULD BE A WAKE UP CALL
I am an ER nurse. I have seen abuse. I have also seen parents with children who have complicated diagnoses. Most doctors I've worked with would get records, talk to the parents who know the child and talk with that child's physicians. This case should NEVER have happened. We've seen parents and patients who jump from doctor to doctor ... but this child had the SAME doctor for a year and he took over for the other doctor. There was no frequent jumping. She wasn't given more than her physician prescribed. The mother followed the doctor's orders ... so HOW is it HER fault? This whole thing made me furious. This was a well-loved child, no injuries, a mother with all the previous important information organized just as a nurse would organize. Yes, the Ketamine doses are high. But, again, she is under a physician's care. Talk to that doctor!!!!!!
Also, for people who are griping about the coma for the initial treatment in Mexico, Hate to tell you this, but due to how our broken medical system works, there are many treatments done in other countries that are not done here. My dad had a brain tumor the docs here could only partially remove. He was given 4 years. He chose not to do the radiation/chemo and instead went to Mexico for an American run treatment that involved a strict diet and some medication he had to drink multiple times a day. His tumor literally disappeared which surprised the doc that agreed to still do the necessary scans despite my father's refusal to follow their suggestions. When he was cancer free for 5 years, they stopped the medication but said he had to stay on the diet for life or it would come back and be more difficult to treat. The Mexican place charged based on what you could afford. Again, something you wouldn't get in America.
There is research done for CRPS and yes, ketamine in high doses and then weaned down over 4 days is one of those procedures. I do not know the doses. Also, there are other procedures we do to save a patient's life by putting them in a medically induced coma. This isn't a new thing.
And the risk for EVERY procedure you have done, whether it is plastic surgery or even the removal of a finger or toe has the risk of death. So, for the parents to be given a lifeline that might help their ailing child -- of course they would take it.
Here is the other issue ... her mother is a nurse. We are advocates for our patients and would be even more determined to advocate for our family. We joke that we nurses make the worst patients ... and lord help you if that nurse is the parent. There are people who are ego driven, and I have a bad feeling Beata, frustrated at these doctor's/staffs' ignorance, was blunt and someone who shouldn't be in healthcare took offense. As an ER nurse, we are pretty used to being the punching bag. By the time you see us, you are having the worst day of your life and most of us brush it off because we KNOW and understand. But it feels like someone didn't and the ball kept rolling.
Whenever a doctor or any health professional can say they didn't make a mistake despite evidence to the contrary, it is time to question their competence. We see miracles and unexpected results all the time. Doctors and nurses are humans caring for humans . . . Mistakes are ALWAYS a possibility. Heck, when I started out as a nurse in med/surg, we got a pt transferred from Vanderbilt who we were told was brain dead. I had a student preceptee who was doing a 2nd full neuro check ... for practice, as I'd done them with that student earlier. That nurse came to me and said the pt responded. I didn't believe but went to see and sure enough, that patient was gripping on command. That "brain dead" pt walked out of the hospital a month later. That was a mistake relabeled a miracle, but still, a misdiagnosis.
What John Hopkins and their staff did was beyond unprofessional. Starting with them not working with other professionals skilled in CRPS.
I agree those doses were uncomfortably high. I didn't think there was anything wrong with getting a 2nd opinion from another CRPS specialist in finding a way to help the child without the ketamine. ALSO, if they had simply explained their concerns to the mother, and then had the specialist they ultimately let the father bring the child to also talk to the mother, this all could have been avoided. But instead, in their ignorance and worse, their arrogance, they accused the mother of medically abusing her child and the child of faking and refused to accept anybother possibility. That child SHOULD NEVER have been told or overheard such awful things about her mother or worse, herself. We are taught that pain is subjective ... so how could they justify telling her she didn't have it? Also, why did she have to be discharged before she could see a specialist? They should have had specialists consulted from the get-go especially as the doctors caring for her did not know this disease. It would be different if THAT DISEASE was Dr. Smith's specialty ... but it was not. So how dare that woman act as if her decision was the only decision that mattered. She was so obviously on a power trip, it was disturbing.
There were so many screw ups visible in this documentary by DR. Smith and all the other people involved. Nor was it appropriate for that nurse to hold a 10 year old on her lap. We have all hugged patients, especially if they ask for it, but there is a line you have to carefully walk with children.
As to the pictures ... what was the relevance? When I worked ICU, we got permission to take pictures of wounds. I could see if she had unexplainable bruises or injuries, but even then, whoever was guardian should have given permission and, being the child was 10, it should have been done in a non-traumatic way. (Such as explaining what was needed and not treating her like a criminal.)
I hope the healthcare industry takes note. We HAVE to report signs of abuse ... we will get in trouble if we do not. I have reported it. As someone who was abused every way you can be from the time I was 3 - 7 and then adopted by a physically and emotionally abusive family, it would destroy my soul to know I didn't help a child. But I always assumed that everything was done to VERIFY there wasn't something else going on. In truth, since social services never seemed to do anything for me (beyond destroy my life as a child) , I didn't think they were so aggressive with families that were in the grey zone. It would destroy me even more to know that a child I reported possible abuse was taken from a loving home and put into the hell we call foster care when she instead had a disease that caused the excessive bruising or bleeds. How can they so quickly take these parents rights away when social services drags their feet with children who truly are being abused? Is it because the innocent parents cooperate... trying to do everything to get their child back?
We need to fix this problem before parents avoid the ER when it could be necessary. No parent should have to worry about losing a child for doing the RIGHT thing.
That poor mother. . . I 100% see why she did what she did. The situation was heartbreaking. Her child was getting worse and asking for help and every time she turned around, that stupid nurse was plotting against her and they were completely destroying her life and worst of all, they were holding her child hostage and putting that child's life at risk. As a nurse, you cannot work if accused of hurting another human being. Her reputation was probably in shreds. You know she did the math and realized, if she was out of the equation, her baby could come home and then her husband could get Maya the help she needed. I admit, it was not a long-term approach, and was not thought through with a clear mind, but it is absolutely something I could see myself doing. And how could anyone expect her to have a clear mind for this? She was doing everything right. As a mother it was her job to ensure her child got the care she needed.
As a parent you SHOULD questions the so called professionals. Especially after that Doctor who did the treatment in Mexico warned her that this was putting her child's life at risk. (Why he wrote that to Beata and not the judge or doctor takkng care of the child is beyond me.) Even now, it took me a while to figure out other things she could have done. . . Like move out. Still, if someone falsely accused me of doing such horrible things to someone I loved, it would gut me, destory my sense of self. I wish I could put my arms around Beata ... she seemed like such a lovely women. A mama bear fighting to the death for her child. I'd have given anything to have had a mother like that. And the horrible treatment of the courts and lies and accusations the hospital, Smith and that crappy nurse stole that beautiful woman away. Honestly, as far as I am concerned, even the judge saying he was just listening to the professionals, should get sued and disbarred because he DIDN'T listen. He is supposed to look at ALL sides and failed miserably. Especially as, the biggest fact was that the mother was giving her child the "PRESCRIBED" meds. She was doing exactly what she was supposed to. Thank god she did what a lot of us nurse mothers would do and wrote EVERYTHING down. Honestly, to the people who said that was obsessive or proof of her mental illness, you are idiots. You should take detailed notes, you should record the doctors and staff. You are your own advocate. I hope all her information helps her family fight that pathetic excuse for a hospital.
The whole thing made me sick and I pray, pray that the hearing gave the family justice and that Dr. SMITH is removed from her position ... and her license taken away. I pray the family finds peace.
Thank you for bringing this to everyone's attention.
Escaping Twin Flames (2023)
How did no one want to kick that guy in the junk?
Seriously, from the 1st video they show of him, I found him fake and annoying. I don't understand how none of those other people felt that way ... or did they just not listen to their intuition. There was so much they said that made no sense and sometimes, you can even hear that they do not believe in some of the the advice they give. It breaks my heart that there were no people to stand up to them and play devil's advocate. I think, with the internet as a main connection point that many more culty groups will come forth and destroy the lives of those who need a connection and help. I am so sorry you giys went through this.
Dance 100 (2023)
Seemed rigged
I'm a performer that watched with dancer friends and we all were confused one why Akira didn't get a single vote. This a choreography show. I've performed under some complete jerks, so if she angered her dancers, they should have shown it. But, even so, it shouldn't be personal. Her choreography was not my favorite, but it was better than Celine"s chaos.
Celine's dance was messy and she is not a good dancer ... Akira could out dance her. Same with week 2, loved Rex's style BUT again, he upset some dancers and turned the whole group basically against them and Celine AGAIN gets a pass with another messy dance. Outside judges would have nipped her in the bud. Then she gets saved again in her dance battle and her group positively SUCKED. Literally, how she won that battle is beyond anyone I've talked to. The show HAD to be rigged. Or the dancers just picked their favorite person??? But Celine is so full of herself, and you can hear her yell at the dancers. I almost stopped watching at that point because I would have been beyond angry if she won the thing.
LOVED THE premise, and the 2 top choreographers did make it in the end. And the person who deserved to win did, but most of the judging was awful and needs to be revamped. Would definitely watch a season 2, especially if it was less rigged.
Argylle (2024)
This was fantastic
I simply expected a contemporary version of Romancing the Stone. What was presented was so much more. The twists and turns were well done. At the same time, there was a lightness to it. I will definitely watch this movie multiple times and hope they do continue it.
The cat stole the show, even if it did look a little fake at times.
There was nothing introduced that wasn't ultimately used, as in all good writing. Honestly, most of what Hollywood has been regurgitating of late is junk. I am sick of superheroes and Marvel and DC need to just quietly fade into anonymity. We're all sick of badly done Disney live action. (Seriously, once you've seen one Lion King, you've seen them all and the original remains the best.) So this movie was a breath of fresh air. In fact, this is the first Hollywood movie of the year that I would actually endorce. All the other good movies have been on Netflix or other streaming originals.
What the Health (2017)
Some Things were Unrealistic
Seriously, I keep wondering how much was staged. You cannot tell me 2 women as sick as the ones shown were basically almost cured after 2 weeks on some plant based diet. Especially the woman who needs hip surgery. Maybe I'd believe it after a month or 2 but she suddenly could walk like she never had osteoarthritis.
There were a lot of good points. However, I just ended up not knowing who to believe and giving up on even trying. In the 80s, low fat/fat free diets were all the rage and then research showed such diets caused diabetes and other issues. Then high protein was in, then low carb... all have medical professionals who promote and naysay. Then there's the endless piles of the danger of sugar. This show made me realize that I can't trust anyone, including the producers of this documentary.
American Nightmare (2024)
A Wonderful Example for all those Blindly Believe the News
I remember the Gone Girl Kidnapping. Even then, it was clear the law enforcement and FBI never did there job. Something that is common when it comes to women and assult. (Anyone remember the entire warehouse filled with unprocess rape kits, I think it was in Detroit. Oh good lord went to verify the city and got a sadder shocker. If you Youtube warehouse rape kits you'll find other cities besides Detroit who did the same thing. There's a great documentary of the Detroit one. Many of those results were REPEAT offenders who, had they actually did the work and caught the guy, would not have raped the other women over the years.)
This documentary was well done. And another clear sign of why we need to hold Law enforcement accountable. They CHOSE to publicly claim Denise's kidnapping was a hoax. They could have simply said it was still under investigation. Instead, it was easier to throw the blame elsewhere.
That woman cop is my hero. She is what you expect an officer of the law to be. She went above and beyond to find the truth.
I am horrified how many sheep went after Denise and her then boyfriend on the internet. I hope they learned a valuable lesson on assumptions. Not everything the news says is truth. Not everything you read is true. We, as a society need to learn about seeking our own truth.
I am glad the couple survived hell together and have gone on to a better life. I hope they also got therapy, because you can see the pain is still fresh. I also hope Netflix paid them well for bringing this all up again. Especially as there will be idiots who only warch the 1st 2 parts and go back to blaming the couple. But I am Especially glad the truth was made more accessible. I had never heard they caught the true kidnapper. News outlets made more of the Hoax than they did of the truth. They should have had to release numerous retractions because I think most of us only ever knew of the Hoax.
I am also glad the previous assult victim had her say as well.
Bones (2005)
Fun show
Always enjoyed this show, but every time I watch them work on a juicy corpse sans mask or eye protection, I cringe. As an ER nurse, I've seen many exposures via body fluid spray, or needle pokes, etc. Also, how do all the people not smell the dead bodies befire they step on them or lean on them
Thankfully, they don't do a lot of actual medical episodes, because those are painful to watch as a medical personnel. Do these people not use healthcare staff to verify the terminology? They actually had "professionals" autopsy DEAD bodies treat their infected lab buddy (while again not wearing appropriate PPE, give medicine and a ridiculous amount of various anti-anxiety meds and then pour herbal fluids down an unconscious man's throat.
I don't remember Brennen being so narcissistic. I honestly cannot imagine why her friends and family are not more honest with her about her behavior. When I was younger, I thought their relationship was so romantic. Now, not so much. Still, I enjoy this show.
Bad President (2021)
Now it all Makes sense!
This is really a 6/10 movie, but I figured all Trump's cult followers would super under-rate this comedy. For those of us who haven't drank the cool-aid, this was a breath of freah air a nd truly did help make more sense of the pure idiocy of the Trump. Thinking Trump sold his soul to the devil is the only thing that continues to make any sense how this pos always floats to the top.
Eddie Griffith was excellent as the devil, his acting was superb. The guy who played Trump also hit it spot on. For a comedy spoof, it had decent acting, Would love to see a version of this explaining the crazy going on with the coming election.
Elvis (2022)
Austin Butler seriously channeled Elvis
Austin Butler's performance was the only reason I finished this movie. He was so convincing that I couldn't tell if the final scene Elvis was him or the real deal.
This movie should have been a 10 out of 10 film, but the jerky camera and weird rap remixes and quick flashes back and forth made it very hard to stick with this disjointed film. It got better when it didn't keep jumping back to Col. P in a hospital gown. Wish they had stuck with just doing those bits as a voice over. But Austin, dang, makes me want to go out and rewatch all my mom's favorite Elvis movies.
The ending was so sad and a vivid reminder of how many artists are stuck in these abusive financial contracts.
Asteroid (2021)
Who is rating this disaster anything above a 1
Why name a movie ASTROID if you aren't planning to have one be the main characterof the film? Also, is this supposed to be a comedy - a very poorly written, agonizingly bad one? There was not a single bit of real responses in this film. Who STAYS local when their life may be at stake. Pack your bags and run... get out of the state. Honestly, why didn't everyone get out instead if go to some deep cave .... with NO SUPPLIES? I watched hoping it would be the usual campy apocalypse scenario. Instead, everyone is taking long moments for heart to hearts and random extended totally unnecessary discussions.
Superintelligence (2020)
How did I miss this in 2020?!?! FUN MOVIE
This is a Rom-com. Not an award winning work of art, but a sit down, have fun, not super serious movie. I am surprised by how low it is rated. Obviously, it's not a 10/10, but definitely better than 5.4. The acting is superb, Melissa is gorgeous and fun to watch and the ultimate message that those in power really need to have input from those who are more sensitive instead of the political parties who honestly can't see beyond their own importance. Seriously, if those of us with hearts were also a part of the decision making, the world would be a better place.
Overall, I really enjoyed this movie and would definitely watch it again.
Moonfall (2022)
How was this released as a major motion picture
This is a solid B movie. It is hard tp believe anyone read this and spent millions to make a blockbuster picture. The dialogue is absolutely ridiculous, the timing is literally unreal. Oh no, we are in a time crunch but let's spend 5 - 10 minutes in a discussion. Let's completely forget the absolute lack of understandong the writers and producers had of physics, science or any understanding of human nature. On the plus side, it was still a better movie than The Batman.
The Batman (2022)
How is this rated so Highly?
I walked out. I went to see it with my husband and had low expectations and yet, they managed to still disappoint me. After an hour and a half, I couldn't bear anymore and left my husband at the theater and went grocery shopping. My husband texted me half an hour later to pick him up, with plans to maybe finish the movie when it's on blue ray.
Batman is so depressed, it makes you wonder why he doesn't quit his job. I love Patterson and this movie makes his Twilight acting seem good. 😬. It doesn't showcase his abilities. In truth, there were no characters I could like or root for. No reason to invest any time in seeing what happens next.
I honestly cannot understand how this is getting an IMDB rating of 8.3. The reviews I've read have mostly been negative. It is an Emo batman in a dark Gotham, as many have pointed out. I would honestly rather watch Superman vs Batman or Moonfall again than this.
If it wasn't rated so high, I would have given it a 3/10.
Tin Man (2007)
WOULD have been my favorite show but for Zoey
This 3 part movie was the first time I saw Zoey D in action and I was less than impressed. Honesrly, it is a wonder she ever aquired the fame she did. Watching it again and her performance remains as bad as I remember. Fortunately, everyone else's makes up for her lackluster and sometimes oddly spoken dialogue.
The story of love and redemption is beautiful. It is a great take on a well-loved story. And keeps you engrosswd from the beginning to end.
Riftworld Chronicles (2015)
This Unfinished Gem was born too early
My husband and I recently watched this show, just to kill time .... and we were hooked. I am sad they didn't complete the series. I hope someone picks it up now that streaming is popular and 5 - 10 minutr mini-series is more often seen. This show was well-writren and witty. Each episode made you eager for the next and is better than the regular boring, endlessly dragged out series that are popular today.
Ink Master (2012)
I Quit Watching this When I realized it was Rigged in Season 3
Seriously, the day Clint went home and Josh was saved yet AGAIN made me realize how rigged this show was. His whiny butt couldn't tattoo himself out of a plastic bag. No point watching the rest, bc I'd lose it if his smug face won. And LORD, the excuses EVERYONE had. As a performer who has done competitions, you thank the judges learn and move on. EVERYONE had an excuse. No one could take constructive criticism. Competition is hard, stressful, but you have to prove that you can work under pressure. If you gave a ton of excuses at an audition, you would be so gone. These were 20 people good enough to be on TV, be grateful, accept criticism as a learning tool and move on.
The Christmas Chronicles: Part Two (2020)
The Bratty Nature of the Girl was just too much
It's bad enough we live in a "Me-centric" world ... I had to stop watching because of the seriously bad attitude of the girl. Yes, I understood she was angry, but booking a flight? That takes teen angst up to a whole new level.
Dickinson (2019)
Too Odd for me
I tried, but the contemporary language and the hip hop music was too distracting and just didn't fit. It's like opening an ice cold bottle of coke and tasting warm water. I alao had a hard time taking the comedic actress who plays the mom seriously. I tried to loke it. I enjoyed the snippets of poetry floating accross the screen. I also enjoyed the struggle of a young woman who wants more than to be stuck in the mold of women forever.
Repo! The Genetic Opera (2008)
Slasher film
This movie was a slasher, musical. There were interesting concepts but the sheer amount of blood spraying across the screen was pointless. This reminded me of Clockwork Orange. Another horrific movie. Honestly, it was a waste of time. I expected some point to reveal itself, but nothing.
Storyline aside, the music was equally bad. The 1st few songs were ok, but then it was the same poorly contrived motifs over and over with songs that were utterly meaningless.
Mysterious Island (2005)
C Movie
This movie is a disgrace in an era with Jurassic park and so many other movies with fantastic special effects. It reminds me of rhe 1970s sci-fi. You have a good cast, so the overly large, very fake creatures are unnecessary. I mean, the sizes keep changing. They xrawl doen trees that are not that big and yet they are somehow the size of a car?? And who dressed Patrick Stewart? He looked horrible.
F9 (2021)
NOT THE SERIES I LOVED
I will not be adding this to by F&F collection. The action was ridiculous and the plot only , eh.
Dom has always been all about family but he is living off the grid away from his sister and niece. He and his SO and his son. No phone, nothing. They leave the kid behind to go on a quest? Who is watching the child? I was able to justify it by pretending he dropped the kid off at his sister. But NO, his sister Mia finds them in their lair (how did she just know where they were???? & who is watching their kids??? Who would they trust enough to raise them because people die on these missions.
Ok, kids aside, l think they've run out of realistic looking tricks. At one point they have a car driving across a rope bridge and then they are driving straight up a vertical rope bridge ... what about GRAVITY??? Or the strength of a bumper. I know theor have been pther crazy tricks, but they were in a story that grabbed you or looked amazing.
Only good thing... the music is fantastic.
Cinderella (2021)
An Interesting Take on Cinderella
The story itself was fun and took a different path than expected. It was fun to watch and didn't take itself seriously at all. My favorite characters were the mice. Loved them.
Sadly, the music is probably why this is rated so poorly. There are WAY too many songs and some don't even make sense with the scene.
So, this movie was a good solid 5/10. Decent acting. Good voices, beautiful clothing and a fun set.
Leverage: Redemption (2021)
Nice to see my fav characters again, but not as good as original
I am surprised at all the positive reviews. This is not even close to being as good as the original. I honestly, if it wasn't for a loyal fan base, I don't think it would fly at all. The writing is clunky, the cons less smooth & Sophie's con characters really fake and over the top. Nor are they as well.thought out. Kind of disappointed. I'm guessing the writers are different.
