Teaching Kids Responsibility Through Chores (And How to Get Started!)
Saturday, September 1, 2018
We all want to raise children who become responsible adults, but that won't happen on its own. Teaching kids how to be responsible is a must. Responsibility can be learned by raising a pet, doing homework, or making sure their room stays clean, but one tool that parents seem to have pulled away from in recent years are chores. Chores are a wonderful way for children to learn responsibility and even at a young age, there are chores your children can manage.

College is a big step, especially if your teen will be living on campus. It’s may be the first time they'll be out on their own! They may be crazy with excitement, but there’s also a chance that they're a bit apprehensive about the change; It will be a new place and they may not even know anyone. As a parent, it can scare you to send your child off to a new place, maybe one completely across the country, so how do you prepare them to live on their own? All you can do is to help ensure your child has everything they'll need to get started on their own. I'm going through this myself, so I've put together my best tips for helping your college-bound teen move into a dorm room, whether it's across the country or right across town and I even made a printable list to help you shop and pack!

There's a reason that Spring Cleaning is so popular; It's a time when the house can be freshened up after a long, cold Winter, but the same can be done after a long, hot Summer, too. The weather is finally a bit cooler, so it's the perfect time to do some Fall cleaning to get the house ready for the holiday season and it will make your Spring cleaning chores a bit easier, too. I've got a great list of Fall cleaning chores and recommendations along with a printable checklist to help you get it all done.

Getting the kids out of the door on time and with everything that they need can be a struggle sometimes. Kids tend to lose focus during their morning routine, shoes get lost, lunches forgotten, and somewhere in there should be a warm and filling breakfast. Moms and dads have a lot to deal with, so I came up with a list of 5 ways to streamline your morning, for both parents and kids, to get organized (including a printable 'My Morning Routine' worksheet) so that we can all fit in a hearty, warm breakfast.

Hiking is something I used to love to do and the more rugged the terrain, the better. I've slowed down quite a bit since having kids, but now that they're older, I love to get in a family hike in when we can. Hikes with the family aren't as strenuous as the hikes I would take when I was younger (my body would disagree, lol), but if there's one thing I've learned, it's that accidents can happen anywhere. I always believe it's better to be prepared, so I've put together a list of tips for prepping for a family hike including how to put together a cool custom first aid kit.

If you've been reading the blog for a while you know that we've been doing Family Game Nights since the kids were small. I think it's a great way to make the whole family feel connected by having fun together. Sometimes it's just playing some games after dinner, a lot of times there are snacks, but occasionally I'll get the urge to make it into a wonderfilled night. Keep reading for some tips and tricks to pull together a family game night to remember.

Some of you parents may be sending a child off to college this fall. Going off to college can be exciting, but dorm rooms can require a major adjustment. Most dorm rooms have a desk, dresser, and bed for each student. If the student is lucky, there are only two students per room, and as you can imagine, there aren't a lot of storage options. This means college students (and parents) need to think outside the box to make their dorm room more functional. The following are 15 must-haves for dorm rooms (with some fun options thrown in, too!)

During the summer, I love to take the kids to the library, and I'm lucky both of my kids love reading. This is a fun, free activity that will keep their minds active until school starts again, but there are certain things you need to take a trip to the library: Your library card ("Mom, I can't find my card!"), and the books you need to return ("I think I only had seven.") It would also be helpful if they were returned on time. Womp. My bad.
We needed something to get us summer-ready. A way to organize our library books and keep that due date foremost in our minds because, let's face it, how often do you really keep up with that library receipt? It had to contain all of the books in one place (not all over the house, please) and it would be great if we could write on it. Voila! An idea was born.

If you're reading this blog, you're most likely a parent, and if you're a parent, you're also most likely so busy you don't know how you'll manage most days. Take adults, children, work, school, play, housework, groceries, friends, family, appointments, obligations, taxes, birthdays, vacations, holidays, and everything else, mix them all together, and you have a day in the life of any parent.
Being able to work from home is a blessing. I'm able to drop off and pick up my children from school, and I'm able to shuffle obligations around more easily if something unexpected pops up, but working from home can be a curse too. By design you've taken on all of your normal daily tasks while still stuffing work into every free minute. It can be hectic, but oh-so-rewarding when you can take the kids for an after-school treat and still get a paycheck.
I've learned some organizational tricks over the years that I'd love to share with you, and I'd also love to share a new service: Walmart Family Mobile Plus. With unlimited everything at one of the lowest prices you'll find anywhere, it can help you multitask like a pro for less, and with a free Vudu movie every month, it can help you unwind like a pro too.

Beautiful Meets Functional: Jill-e Designs Laptop Tote in Brown Croc
Friday, November 7, 2014
I received a Brown Croc Laptop Tote from Jill-e Designs in order to facilitate an honest review. All opinions are my own.
If you read my review of the Sasha Laptop Messenger, you know how much I adore Jill-e Designs' bags. They're well made from the best materials and they're absolutely gorgeous; What's not to love?
I had the chance to try out their Laptop Tote in Brown Croc (which was on my wishlist!), and I was not disappointed! This sleek tote is sophisticated enough to take to the office, but casual enough to carry on the weekends.

Hi. My name is Holly, and I'm a bag addict. There, I said it. I am addicted to gorgeous bags of all kinds! Surprised? Probably not, but what may surprise you is that didn't carry over to more utilitarian bags like laptop and camera bags. Why not? Because I didn't know there was a choice.
I won a Personal Planner from Personal-Planner.com through a blog giveaway and decided to review it for you cause it is so awesome. This is not a sponsored post and all opinions are honest and my own.

Okay, I admit: I'm a little OCD about organizing things. I'm not saying I organize ALL the things, just some that are super time-consuming and are not my favorite things to do. Like planning a weekly menu, making grocery lists, and doing the shopping. The reason for planning any of it in advance is primarily to cut our grocery bill, be more aware of what we're eating during the week, save time in the grocery store, and make sure I'm not rummaging in the fridge for a last-minute dinner to cook. If you have a plan in place, it will also cut down, or out, your eating out (or ordering in.) If you don't know how or where to start, read on.
