What's your Digit? Take 5

It has been a very long time since I participated in Miss Strawberry Singh's Monday Meme and this week's meme I just had to make time to join in the fun because it's about my avatar's digits. I've been doing this particular meme for the past 3 years. I missed the first Digit Challenge.

I was using the WowMeh mesh body last year and you can see it here but this year I have not used any mesh bodies so I'll go straight to question #4.

4. How do you feel about mesh bodies in general? It's complicated. I like that the body looks so smooth and then I have to wear the clothes. The main reasons I haven't bought any new ones is because I don't want to spent the time adjusting the body to the mesh dresses or get disappointed when some mesh dress just cannot be worn because the mesh body's alpha layers are not compatible. I also don't want to wear appliers because it feels to me like taking 2 steps back to system clothings.

Meme: What's Your Digit Take 4

I like doing this digit challenge from Miss Berry's. This will be the third year I am participating. I like playing around with the shape sliders and see how they can change the avatar and I like having the opportunity to have Moon in a bikini.

Below was how Moon looked in 2012 after I started applying standard size.

There hasn't been much changes except to fit into a size XS, S or M because not all clothes are standard sizes. I still use zero body fat which to me doesn't mean my avatar is skinny as her body thickness is way out there at 77. And eventhough she is over 6 feet, doesn't mean she is tall as making her a little over 5 feet makes her look stunted. Virtual size and real life size is just not the same.

Questions about Fitted Mesh:

1. What are your thoughts about Fitted mesh? – I am more open towards Fitted Mesh than I was with regular mesh. When I bought a mesh body, I demoed a few Fitted Mesh clothings and I found that it wasn't any better than regular mesh, infact, my avatar with her mesh body wore the regular mesh better. I tried working with the shape sliders, but that didn't help. So for now, I will stick to regular mesh.
2. Have you tried any of the new fitted mesh avatars released by Linden Lab? What do you think of them? – I like them. I think it is a step in the right direction except for the part where one can't change their attire. Also, why are their hands and fingers so big?
3. Have you tried any fitted mesh avatars/bodies created by residents? – I have only felt like trying the WoWMesh body and my avatar is now wearing the mesh body full time.
4. Have you tried a mesh head? What are your thoughts about mesh heads? – I have demoed a few mesh heads. I didn't like that the face is the same for everyone so that didn't win me over.
5. Do you foresee a lot of changes to our current Second Life avatars because of fitted mesh? –Changes takes time. Even now people are still using system clothings on their avatars and with all the shape sizing frustrations with Fitted Mesh and regular mesh, I don't think there will be a lot of changes anytime soon.

Meme: Strike a Pose Challenge

Miss Strawberry has another Meme Challenge .

I have so poses, I can't really say which is my favorite posemaker. I look for affordable poses. I'm the budget conscious buyer no matter how tempting a pose is, I'll think a zillion time before I make that final decision to buy or not. If I buy that expensive pose, I'll probably have just a couple. 
I have several pose stands in my skybox and the poses I use the most are from:

1. Purple Poses
2. Di's Opera
3. Glitteratti
4. Apple Spice
5. Ma Vie

When I do couple poses with my alt Carter or ManAlt, I would mix poses from different posemakers and I would even use a pose fix to change the position of an arm or face so that the couple would look like they're looking at each other or holding hands, etc. This process is a bit tedious (which I did with the pose above so that Moon's hands are not poking into her torso) so I rarely do it.

I've also made some poses but I didn't have the passion for it so I stopped.

Also, ever since I started blogging for Cosmopolitan Sale Room, I've had the opportunity to use poses from Eternal Dreams, Sup Poses and Nantra which are also good.

But for my everyday poses, I will normally use the poses that I have purchase. I know I could use the poses that I've blogged but you know, if I forget to credit them, I'd feel bad and they might feel mad. 

Just like the pose I took above, although it is one that I bought, I've forgotten who made it because I'm not logged into SL at the moment! So to make it all the same, I'm not posting any credits.

1. What is the spring season like where you live? – I live in Malaysia. It's a tropical country and it's always hot and humid.
2. What’s the first thing that pops into your head when you think of spring? – Flowers. Lots and lots of colourful flowers.
3. Which spring-themed sim in Second Life is your favorite at the moment? – I'm not very original. Whenever I want to be in a seasonal sim, I would always go to Calas Galadhon sims.  I'm happy about this challenge because I actually went out to the sims to take the picture! Monday Meme Dance Challenge

2. Which is your favorite dance in Second Life?  I have a lot of dances from Humanoid which I mixed into a dance sequence which is not too fast and doesn't get in anybody's way. That would be my favorite.
3. What are your favorite dance animation stores in Second Life? Humanoid would be a good bet:)
4. Are you a frequent dancer in Second Life? I'm a fan of live music and when I'm there, I will dance. I'm not shy dancing alone.

Monday Meme: The Winter Season Challenge

It's Monday and it's time for another Meme from Miss Strawberry.

1. What is the December/Winter season like where you live? – I live in Malaysia and in December, it is cold and wet most of the time because of the Monsoon.
2. When you think of winter, what’s the first thing that pops into your head? – When I was still a clueless chit, I used to think of winter as in Charles Dicken's novels especially Christmas Carol and Oliver Twist. I still do I guess as can be seen in the picture above. Then when studies took me to US, it was how slushy and yucky the snow became when it melted. Now, I wish I could feel the snow flakes on my face again! Winter also means a beginning for me. I know it's strange because winter is the end of the year, but a lot of things happen to me during those winter times and carried over to the new year.
3. Have you ever played any extreme winter sports? –Nothing extreme for me:)
4. What do you like most about this season? –The snow when it falls. It's not as cold when it's not snowing and I simply love how all the whiteness covered the grounds, trees and houses afterwards. Beautiful!
5. Do you celebrate Christmas, Hannukkah, Kwanzaa or another holiday during this time of year? – No, I don't, but sometimes I cannot resist buying the cute christmas decors.

1. Best thing about Second Life: I get to meet people from all over the world.
   Worst thing about Second Life:  People end up being the same in both worlds and their negativity sucks.
2. Best thing in your inventory: the Adv Border & Perf HUD. It's so easy to set up a sky platform and to pin point my parcel borders.
   Worst thing in your inventory: weapons from my roleplay past. I want to get rid of them, but they cost me a small fortune so I'm still holding on to them. They do make good props sometimes. 
3. Best earliest SL memory: Being adopted in a roleplay. Until today, I am friends with my roleplay mother:)
   Worst earliest SL memory: Being ostracized by friends for going over to the other clan in a roleplay. That's when I realised that it's all personal.
4. Best thing you learned because of SL: Building!
   Worst thing you learned because of SL: ditto as Miss Berry wrote. Anonymity can bring out the worst in people.
5. Best thing about blogging: I know it should be something about being a better writer, but the truth is, it's made me better at taking pictures, as in, I experiment with the editors in pixlr and picmonkey. I am a visual person.
   Worst thing about blogging: I have the pictures, but I have no idea what to write!
6. Best thing to have with french toast: I like my french toast with jam.
   Worst thing to have with french toast: I'm not sure, but soy sauce would definitely not taste good lol!

Monday Meme: Question about Linden Lab TOS

Miss Berry's meme this week isn't something that hasn't crossed my mind eventhough the answers aren't as easy.

This picture has nothing to do with the meme, but it is about the only place I socialized.

1. Do you usually read the TOS thoroughly before you hit accept? No. I know it's a bad habit not to read any legal documents before signing, but the cup is always half full and I figured it won't wreak havoc on me in the future.
2. How do you feel about the new LL TOS changes, specially from August 15th and section 2.3. I did read that section and I realised what it meant, but I guess it hasn't sunk deep in me yet.
3. Do the changes affect you directly? I became a premium member because I wanted to sell my buildings and they were partly mesh(which I bought from the marketplace) and I could only sell them in my houses if I were a premium member. So if mesh component builders stop making new improved meshes, I would eventually stop builiding and finally stop selling. I guess then I would also have no reason to pay that monthly premium fee or even have a land for a store. I would probably end up just exploring and taking pics and coming into SL less and less.
4. What do you think people should do about this new change? I have no idea. I just hope Linden Lab comes to their senses. No customers, no business.
5. Are you or have you ever thought about leaving Second Life? What would you do with your time/blogs/career if you ever did? I have thought about leaving Second Life too many times to count! The last time I was so sure I would, I deleted everyone on my friend's list and then the building thing kicked in and I had a new diversion. Well, if I do quit, I think I will start pestering my children:) Seriously, I will first start forcing myself to concerntrate on reading a whole book and not just the beginning, middle and ending. That's a start:)

It was Monday and it was time for another challenge from Miss Berry.

This picture has nothing to do with the meme. I took it while doing a hunt at the Nest sim and the Zinnia store was so colourful, it attracted me.

3. Which link were you surprised to see? Only the first 5 links had anything to do with me. The 6th was a link to download a song called Pale light of a silver moon by Falconer. I had no idea!

The first 2 are mine while the the 3rd was a picture of the Falconer band(lol) followed by mine and there is even a a picture of a falcon a bit down(not surprising this), but most are pictures of my houses from marketplace. Oh hey, there's even a picture of you in a teal dress. I have no idea why.... or does it mean I was stalking that picture of you?

Monday Meme: Autumn Challenge

It's Monday Meme Challenge from Miss Berry again :)

1. Is autumn your favorite season? Why or why not? Spring is my favorite season. The colours are bright and cheerful and the weather, if I remember, is drier. Autumn comes a close second though. The colours are warmer but I don't like putting on too many pieces of clothings. Which makes Winter the worst I guess:)

2. Do you call it Autumn or Fall? Where I am from, we learned British English but when I went to study in the US, it was American English. So both works for me.

3. What kind of weather does your area get during this season? Malaysian weather is quite finicky and it hasn't rained in a week so it has been very hot and suddenly it's raining right now! It's 29C/84.2F tonight. 

4. Which color do you always associate with autumn? Rust

5. Which Autumn themed sim is your favorite at the moment? It has to be the Calas Galadhon sims. I took the picture at the Mirromere sim over looking my favorite Armenelos sim.

Fantasy in space(Monday meme)

This week's meme challenge from Strawberry Singh is about surrealism and having a platform like SL and being able to interact in it is already surreal. Sometimes I think it's funny that I prefer to have a human avatar rather than any other mythical being but occasionally, I love turning my avatar into a mermaid or a fairy or an elf and even a cyborg. I especially love sci-fi.  What would be surreal to me is to have a mermaid in space. She would have to have wings. Fairy wings of course.

I Can't save a Horse( Monday Meme Challenge)

Before I attempt to do my own meme, I had to find out what a meme is. The past few meme challenges I had done, I only had to answer questions. I didn't have to crack my brain for ideas.

Well, that's not very encouraging. I rarely follow the norms, traditoins, cultures what-have-yous, unless I absolutely have to.

I  love country music and this meme is an ode to the song Save a Horse Ride a cowboy, and I love my pixel horse and I love hanging out around the Calas Galadhon sims and I'm glad they're back. I guess this meme is about the 3 things I love in both worlds. Music, animals and landscapes. And, about fantasy :)

Monday meme: Windlight setting challenge

Meme instructions: Answer the following questions about windlight settings and share some that you’ve created yourself. Don’t forget to leave a link to your post in this meme’s comments.

1. Do you use windlight while taking pictures? If not, why not? I do. 
2. When taking a closeup snapshot for a profile picture, which windlight preset do you use most often? I usually go for Nam's Optimal skin and prims but when I want shadows, I would just use the default setting and then use pixlr to get the contrast and shades.
3. Which windlight presets do you use for full body portraits? The answer would be the same as above. I'm really a simple girl:)
4. If you do landscape photography, which windlights do you use for that most often? I used to go crazy on all the windlight settings available in firestorm, but now I would just use the default setting and use the slider to choose the sun/moon slider and then use pixlr again.
5. Do you have any tricks or tips that you could share for using Windlight effectively? If using pixlr is a trick/tip, then that's it. I usually mix a lot of these settings together to get the effect that is pleasing to my eyes.
6. Have you created any windlights that you would be willing to share with us? I am sure my brain would explode if I have to figure out how to create windlights and upload it too, so no, I don't have any personal windlight settings.

Most of the time, I don't remember what I use, but in the picture above, I tried so I could show.  I went and mixed the Antonio setting and the Alex setting because they gave the picture some depth and then I added yellow and blue and moved the contrast slider in Pixlr. I usually end with a frame but not this time.

Exploring Secondlife Monday Meme

Strawberry Singh's Monday meme is about favorite places on the grid and I have a lot of those although since my first rez day with Avatar Carter back in 2007, a lot of these places have gone and I can't even remember their names. I am continually impress how generous people are to let others enter their sims and just hang out. I think nowadays it is a bit risky with griefers abound and it's just ashame nothing is as innocent as it used to be.

My #1 goto place has always been the Calas Galadhon sim chain since rezzing in SL. Unfortunately, it is no longer open although I read that it would open again on a smaller scale. I miss Armenelos with it's trademark white village on the hill and the underwater garden for my mermaid to go frolicking. You can see the picture of Armenelos on my flickr.

My #2 goto place would be Half Hitch, a sailing Island on the Blake Sea chain. I can rez my little boat here and then sail the Sea! Although I am not a good sailor and sailing term always confuses me, I still get on that little boat and just let the wind move the boat, slow or fast and wait till I crash, taking pics along the way:)

Next would be Solaria. It's such a compact Island and eventhough I've never been to the Mediterranean, I imagine this is how the quaint villages and little towns would look like. There is an underwater garden in Solaria so this is a good place for mermaids too.

Then comes La Perla- old Italy, another mediterranean town. I think part of their charm that attracts me is their colourful houses and buildings, their intimate street and rustic look. And of course, their trademark town on the hill. Who doesn't recognize La Perla?

#5 would be the Caledon sims. I can't really choose which sim I like the best. All those old buildings and landscaping are absolutely enchanting to my eyes. It's hard to take just one picture because there is so much to see. What I usually do when I am here is just enjoy the view or take a train ride around the sims till I crash.

And, #6 because #1 can't be visited at the moment, is the bayou sims of New Toulouse although I remembered they had more than 2 sims when I last visited. The landscaping is just awesome and I can hear Linda Ronstadt singing Blue Bayou. I can imagine eating jambalaya. I can also imagine the hot weather, not so different from where I come from.... mosquitoes, snakes...I should stop:)

There are shops and residentials on this sim so best not to enter any houses unless you know it's a shop. Which reminds me when I first rez in SL, I would do a lot of exploring and just enter anybody's houses because I had no idea anyone would be upset. I was clueless and still is sometimes.

It's been awhile since I visited all these sims and I enjoyed taking the pictures. I'm really glad I did this meme. I'll be putting the original pictures(4000x2100) and then some on my flickr later. Thank you, Strawberry!
