Due to multiple interactions over the last couple weeks, I want to make it clear that you guys can just ask me stuff. You don’t need to wait for me to do something that provides an excuse. I don’t mind. I can’t guarantee I’ll always answer, but I don’t mind.
Sylux is a weirdly funny character to me. When it was first introduced it was just one in a rogues gallery of other Hunters. The one with the most ambiguous backstory and an implied history with Samus, but still just one of the dudes. But then it turned up in the secret ending for Prime 3 mysteriously, and then again in the ending of Federation Force. Practically doing the gaming equivalent of being teased like a huge impending threat to the Metroid universe through post-credits scenes before finally turning up as the big boss mastermind it was hyped up to be like it’s Metroid’s Thanos or something except it’s some shmuck from a DS spinoff where it looked like this.
In the exciting conclusion, Cal decides to try his luck against a post-game superboss. It’s tough for me to say more, because practically every interesting excerpt I considered including as a teaser would also spoil a lot, but this turned out great.

Sylux - Metroid Prime 4
really like. for all that the clone wars are a cool concept and an extremely consequential thing that happened in the galaxy, there’s a reason the movies skip right over them. bc it doesn’t matter how many planets anakin & the gang battled separatists on. it doesn’t matter what cool stuff obi wan got up to. it doesn’t matter how close the jedi got to winning/losing the war, it matters that they went to war at all. it matters that a benevolent organization of peaceful monks abandoned 1000 years of prosperity to die for no reason. that was the story george lucas wanted to tell. bc for however confused his politics could get, he came of age aware his country was fighting an evil & pointless war. so he made movies not about good guys that almost won, but about people making weak and foolish choices in the name of patriotism. that is the whole point . that is the prequel trilogy’s most salient and biting commentary. i’m sorry your action figures died but they were doomed by the narrative for being neoliberal. ok.

Au fucking revoir Mister Prince
Bonus, breaking down Sanji’s refusal to hit women would be the funniest possible way to confirm the Crocomom Theory. Sanji either stops being transphobic or Crocodile kills him.
Okay, now THIS is a tricky one because though Revan technically still wins, she would also see Barriss’s potential to become even gayer and supports her development. “Strive to surpass me, Barriss Offee!”
Got tagged by @progwords for this ask game.
How many works do you have on AO3?
22, but one is really fucking big.
What’s your total AO3 word count?
676091.
Your Top 5 stories by kudos
I’m surprised my old Deadpool-Jessica Jones story remains firmly in the #2 spot. That one probably had the highest ratio of popularity vs effort.
Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
Always do with recent works, or if the comment is on the story’s final chapter. For older multi-chapter stuff I tend to let new readers work their way through it unless they ask a specific question. I want to engage with the audience.
Do you write crossovers?
Not really. I’ve put normally unrelated characters together, but they’re always from within the same franchise.
Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
No. I’ve tried, but it always ends up becoming funny.
Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not to my knowledge.
Have you ever had a fic translated?
The Deadpool one got translated into Russian on ficbook.net. Unfortunately, it looks like it got taken down at some point, I don’t know why since the translator’s account is still there.
Have you ever co-written a fic before?
No.
What’s your all time favorite ship?
I’m inexplicably fixated on barrissoka. That ship is so potentially fascinating yet canonically ignored it makes me more determined to explore every possible angle of it.
What’s a WIP that you want to finish but probably never will?
I’ve had rough ideas for a long time about Ahsoka and Barriss finding Katooni in Talon Karrde’s care, but it’s a scattershot of ideas that isn’t forming anything coherent. Maybe Sabé gets involved, maybe they’re fighting Maul or Jorj Car'das or both, and I keep coming up with random side characters.
There are also a lot of small scenes I’ve written for fun, but there’s hope for them. Returning Conquerors came about from connecting a bunch of random ideas and it turned out great. Maybe I’ll find a way to write in Durge beating Maul to a pulp, I don’t know.
What are your writing strengths?
Visual descriptions. Interpersonal conflict. Banter. Fight scenes. Tying together disconnected parts of a ridiculously incoherent franchise in an interesting way.
What are your writing weaknesses?
This might seem like a minor thing, but I struggle coming up with names for original characters and it gets frustrating. Right now I’ve got a draft with a little girl as a supporting character and she’s been “the girl” for months.
What’s a fandom/ship you haven’t written for yet, but want to?
There’s not much to tell, but since playing Nier: Automata I have brainstormed 2B taking 6O out on a date and figuring out sex. Then it became funny. The purpose of YoRHa is to evolve towards humanity in all its facets, and the scene turned into watching 6O invent android BDSM in real time. It involves the Offensive Heal chip.
What’s your favorite fic that you’ve written?
The Erosion of the Spirit for what an accomplishment it was just to complete it, and for overall turning out as good as it did. Obsolete Products was my favorite when I wrote it because of how cohesive it was and for the dynamic between Ahsoka, Barriss, and Rex. Returning Conquerors became my current favorite because of how fun it was to write.
