Master Post of Current Projects

Youtube:

Geography for World Builders:

  • A series of videos about different geographic features, how they work, and how they affect the development of societies near them, geared to fantasy writers.

Infectious Disease for World Builders:

  • A series of videos about infectious diseases, how they work, and how they affect societies. Broken down by transmission route and geared toward fantasy writers.

ViUzka Mythology:

  • A fictional series of college lectures about the equally ficticious ViUzka people and their mythology and folklore. Utterly self indulgent world building for its own sake. Loosely connected to the Volcano Spirit novel project listed below.

Plus assorted short videos

Novels:

Volcano Spirit:

  • A planned middle grade novel about a girl who has a year to find the lost volcano goddess, or the god of ice will kill her. She spends the year in the wilderness on the slopes of the volcano with her two talking animal companions, learning the ways of the land around her, before eventually discovering that she is the volcano goddess. If that sounds like an obvious twist, remember, I’m writing this for eight to twelve year olds. Takes place within the ViUzka mythology.

Shree:

  • I mean, technically I’ve been working on this project since I was fifteen, and I do have some drafts of the first novel, but they are terrible and I have torn it to pieces and rearranged it completely in the last few months. It’s an epic fantasy about a selkie empire. In the last few decades, one selkie kingdom has emerged to conquer a swathe of human coastal nations. Now the granddaughter of the empress finds herself alone on land with the last prince of one of the conquered countries, trying to keep him alive. Will be a trilogy.

Weak is the Crown:

  • Formerly known as Nicandor and Sortanza, which are still the names of the main characters. Political romance about an arranged marriage between the last heirs of two feuding branches of a royal dynasty. Heavily inspired by the Wars of the Roses and the Tudors, but no one is an analog to anyone actually from the period.

The Palace of Broken Blossoms:

  • This isn’t so much a current project as a germ of an idea about a fantasy romance between a disgraced royal concubine and her maid, that takes place in the Palace of Broken Blossoms, the dumping ground for concubines out of favor with the king. May end up becoming a short story. I have done next to nothing with this.

The thing I have noticed is that pretty much every group of antisemites, Jew-haters, believes or at least claims to believe that Jews have too much power. Virtually all Jew-hate is predicated on this belief that the Jews are powerful and should not be. This is why you almost always see people responding to Jews talking about Jew-hate, talking about the oppression and bigotry we face, by insisting that we are the real oppressors. Jew-hate is, across all political and religious spectrums, a false and conspiratorial statement about Jewish power.

And yet Jew-haters keep acting in a way that makes it clear that at least on an unconscious, instinctive level, they understand that the Jews do not in fact have this power that they insist we do.

Wow.

So there's this small tribal group, right? The colonizing power force marched them out of their homeland, and later forced them to live in horrible conditions, adding all of the force of law to do it. But they survived.

Part of the tribal religious beliefs involves the use of sacred baths of pure rainwater in order to cleanse and purify themselves, because the tribe originally came from scrubland and semi-desert. These baths are taken very seriously, to the point that the tribe considers them to be of utmost importance, and any community of them needs to have at least one.

Just recently, an avowed bigot tricked her way into one of the sacred baths in order to profane it. She claimed to be a member of the tribe, and the bath attendants took her at her word. The bigot then videoed herself in the sacred bath--itself an act of sacrilege--and basically did the equivalent of taking a shit in it.

And then, once she was done, she put the video up on TikTok, feeling proud of her sacrilege. She told her followers that if any of the tribal members complained or protested in the comments, she'd delete what they said. Furthermore, she is a member of a group directly associated with a Supremacist organization which has explicitly said they want to wipe out the entire tribe on the grounds of their race.

The bath attendants are terrified and angry, because their sacred bath has been profaned, and the bigot has also broadcast details about their security procedures across the internet. There is a real risk of an attack because of this, especially given the explicit threats from her associated Supremacist organization. Their organization is even looking into trying to charge the bigot with Criminal Trespass, because what she did was that serious.

But nobody seems to care aside from the tribal people. It's extremely disheartening and disturbing.
