Examining a considerable body of attic black-figure pottery imported in Naucratis, the paper focu... more Examining a considerable body of attic black-figure pottery imported in Naucratis, the paper focuses on matters such as fluctuation of pottery imports from the end of the 7th century to the end of the 6th century BC, preferred vase shapes and prevailing iconography. These, in relation to the find-spots may provide an answer to the question whether Naucratis was an emporion or a polis, as Herodotus claims. Also, the gradual decline of the imports of Athenian vases at the end of the 6th century can be ascribed to the Persian Conquest of Egypt of 525 BC.

The conference will particularly welcome papers in the following

• Epigraphical and literary evidence on the religion and cults in the Dodecanese

The Project and the Symposium focuse on the Egyptian and egyptianised material from archaic Greece and on the re-evaluation of the Egyptian cross-cultural interactivity with the Aegean world and the Early Iron Age eastern Mediterranean in the sphere of economy and religion.
