I’m sure there are people reading this who can relate to being embarrassed, teased or bullied. Some people need to bully others for many reasons, all of them related to their own shortcomings.
I recently read an interview with Simon Pegg who commented on his work with Benedict Cumberbatch on Star Trek: Into Darkness. He found it necessary to ridicule & belittle Ben reporting that they actually left him in a room & all went out to lunch without him, several times. He also made fun of the way he spoke.
I just want to say that I have a few words for Pegg if I ever run into him. As that probably won’t occur, I want Ben to listen to this if he reads this:
You have no reason to be ashamed of who you are. You seem to have no difficulty setting boundaries with me and especially a friend you’ve known for years, in spite of her constant support and encouragement. She is the only one who always tells you the truth. She has defended and fought for you. You need to turn that assertiveness toward Adam and Ms Hunter. You fear punishment as we all do when confronting an enemy, but you will continue to live in fear if you don’t.
You don’t have to continue to be bullied and provoked. But you do have to stand up to them. You obviously know how. Use that skill. You’ll feel unimaginable joy when you do. Defiance feels damned good.
