i think the near-extinction of people making fun, deep and/or unique interactive text-based browser games, projects and stories is catastrophic to the internet. i'm talking pre-itch.io era, nothing against it.

there are a lot of fun ones listed here and here but for the most part, they were made years ago and are now a dying breed. i get why. there's no money in it. factoring in the cost of web hosting and servers, it probably costs money. it's just sad that it's a dying art form.

anyway, here's some of my favorite browser-based interactive projects and games, if you're into that kind of thing. 90% of them are on the lists that i linked above.

if you're ever thinking about making a niche project that only a select number of individuals will be nerdy enough to enjoy, keep in mind i've been playing some of these games off and on for 20~ years (Alter Ego, for example). quite literally a lifetime of replayability.

Oooooh! Saving this

That’s fun

Hey, but don’t fall asleep on this Medieval Fantasy City Generator

There’s also a very helpful Village Generator.

Hey i’m a fashion design student so i have tons and tons of pdfs and docs with basic sewing techniques, pattern how-tos, and resources for fabric and trims. I’ve compiled it all into a shareable folder for anyone who wants to look into sewing and making their own clothing. I’ll be adding to this folder whenever i come across new resources

Updated just now with new hand sewing resources (mainly buttonholes) and textbook pdfs on fashion history, fashion illustration, and thinking through designs!

OP I owe you my life

OP you are the greatest person currently in my life. You beautiful, thoughtful creature.

Okay I’m currently furious that migraines are often so blindly easy to treat and I had to find this out myself at the age of 26 when I’ve been to a neurologist since I was 11 lol so I’m about to teach you two neat and fast little tricks to deal with pain!

The first is the sternocleidomastoid muscle, or the SCM muscle.

This big red section is responsible for pain around the eye, cheekbone, and jaw, as well as some temple pain. Literally all you have to do is angle your head down a little, angle it away from the side that hurts, and then you can gently pinch and rub that muscle. I find it best to start at the bottom and travel upwards. The relief is so immediate! You can increase pressure as you feel comfortable doing so.

The second is a fast and easy stretch that soothes your vagus nerve, which is the nerve responsible for calming you down. The vagus nerve, for those unfamiliar, is stimulated by deep breathing such as yawning, sighing, singing, or taking a deep breath to calm your anger in a tense situation.

You can stretch this out by sitting up as straight as possible (this does not have to be perfect to work) and interlacing your fingers. Put your hands on the back of your head with your thumbs going down the sides of your neck and, while keeping your face forward, look all the way to one side with just your eyes. Hold that until you feel the urge to breathe deeply or yawn, or until you can tell there’s a change. Then do the same thing on the other side. When you put your arms down, you should clearly be able to turn your head farther in both directions. If the first session doesn’t get rid of your migraine, rest and repeat as many times as necessary. I even get a little fancy with it and roll my eyes up and down along the outer edge sometimes to stretch as much as I can.

If you need a visual here’s a good video on it. I know some of the language they use seems questionable but this is real and simple science and should not be discarded because it’s been adopted by the trendy wellness crowd!

I seriously cannot believe I didn’t hear a word of this from any doctor in my life. Additionally, if you get frequent recurring migraines, you may want to see a dietician. Migraines can be caused by foods containing histamines, lectin, etc. and can also be caused by high blood pressure in specific situations such as exercise, stress, and even sex.

If any of this information helps you I’d love to hear it btw! It’s so so fast and easy to do. Good luck!

*currently suffering from a horrible migraine. Tries this*

Are you fucking shitting me it works!?

the suffering never ends

Oh my God!

It’s amazing, some links aren’t working for me but those who are, are spectacular.

Reblogging because NAMING IS HARD

This is about Sci-Hub. yeah we get it.. gatekeep knowledge and protect the interests of capital…

Listen, this is serious.

Do not use the website called Sci-Hub!

It lets people access scientific articles for free. This is dangerous. It helps the free flow of knowledge and reduces the competitive edge of all the people who worked really hard to have been born into a wealth.

Like, it’s literally a website where you can type in the DOI of an article and read it, without ever having to pay the publisher who exploited the author.

So, again, do not, under any circumstance, use Sci-Hub. I mean, can you imagine a world where knowledge is free and easily accessible to everyone? Even, y'know, poor people?

Libgen also has many books online, including textbooks, searchable by name, author, and ISBN. Can you imagine textbook companies not getting their hard-earned income from poor college students? Here is the link just so you make sure that you never accidentally stumble across this horrible, unethical website.

Oh, and while we’re talking about books, if you’ve managed to stay clear from Libgen, definitely don’t go to zlibrary, where you can also find a lot of textbooks, but unfortunately they’re completely free.

Reblogging so you know which sites to totally avoid

Thank you Mr. Incredible

wow this is CRAZY like IMAGINE the power that BROKE SCHOOL STUDENTS COULD HAVE WITH THIS (reblogging for myself)

Also reblogging for myself because I’m definitely not from a disadvantaged background and definitely will never ever touch this gross, criminal websites 🙄

When Ed said "your jealous of humans beacause we can change who we are" and when when greed said "you don't need me anymore kid" and Ling replied "but I do" and when Ed said "your hands where made for giving life, not taking it" and when Wrath said "my wife is the only thing I ever got to choose" and when Pride said "I liked playing house with her [mrs. Bradley], it was pleasant." And when Ed said "If I didn't consider you human, how could I consider my brother human?" and when Greed said "you where right, this IS what I wanted." And when Ed said "who needs alchemy when I have them?" and when

This freaking show. Finally watched it, binged in less than a week, come out of the experience a little bit changed. There is so much humanity in the FMA. Reminded me of HxH, expect, ironically enough, Hunter start much lighter and ends up, in my opinion, about the worst of humanity, instead.

my controversial opinion is that i actually think binghe is more stable than shen yuan. binghe was under the influence of The Sword That Kills You And Makes You Evil when he did the craziest stuff in svsss. he's a mentally-ill young adult who's been routinely ostracized from his peers since birth. you'd be hard-pressed to find someone in his situation that WOULDN'T have a catastrophic meltdown, evil sword aside. he improves leaps and bounds even in the short time from the end of vol 3 to the end of vol 4, and he's clearly trying his best to work out his issues and heal. shen yuan is just actually crazy. he was really going to suck binghe's dick as a "straight" "man" because it "would be sad if he had a boner and didn't do anything with it." he saw that binghe was keeping his corpse at his bedside every day for 5 years and adamantly insists that this isn't inappropriate in any way, and in fact finds it gut-wrenchingly romantic. when he initially refuses binghe he gets all mopey and pissy that binghe DIDN'T proceed to tie him up and violate him. he tells his binghe that if he was pregnant with fetushe he would never abort him. he's absolutely insane. you know his reddit account was legendary.

He definitely fooled me a bit at first read-through. But yeah, that makes sense, Binghe gets progressively more stable even before the happy ending, SQQ still has a ways to go.

Obviously the best way to learn a language is whatever gets you to do it but I also think that some people are addicted to grammar drills or something.

Like eventually you’ve gotta listen to it. Eventually you’ve gotta read. You can’t avoid the comprehensible input forever, bud.

My question is, even if you do like grammar drills, why don’t you also listen to the language? That’s gonna be doing most of the work for you.

Babies aren’t inherently better at learning language than you are. They learn well because they like watching the same minecraft video ten million times in a row. Kids don’t study grammar until they already know how to read. They learn to read by reading books they like about Mickey Mouse. They learn to speak by watching people talk about juice.

Humans are good at pattern recognition. If you watch stuff that you understand in your target language, you’re gonna pick up on patterns. Those patterns are the grammar. You don’t need to study grammar early on.

Wait to study grammar until you’re good enough to read a grammar book in the language you’re studying. You don’t need it until then. If you’re learning Japanese, you can wait until you can read a grammar book in Japanese. All that time you spent reading grammar books in English you could be spending watching sitcoms or whatever it is you like watching.
