the tragedy of buffy to me in early seasons is that she’s convinced she’s not a normal girl dealing with normal girl things even though everything that happens to her is an extremely cogent metaphor for normal girl things, such as when you’re filled with thoughts of violence, or when your boyfriend starts acting like a different person after you have sex with him, or your mom grounds you for being irresponsible even though you ARE responsible it’s just that nobody understands what you’re going through, or when the entire world conspires to convince you that your sexual desires are inherently evil and you will be punished for having them. many of these things are normal girl experiences under the patriarchy but buffy doesn’t know that bc she’s in the literalization torture labyrinth
hey man. nice regional dialect. mind if i apply some baseless assumptions about your personhood to it? i was also gonna prescribe morality to it as well. if that’s cool with you
grizzled mercenaries are always being like “I’m sick and tired of being a pawn in someone elses game” like their job isn’t literally rent-a-pawn
“I hate being a pawn in someone elses game” yeah sure thing grandpa, I’ll give you $50 if you move to D4
i made Vanessa Stockard’s cat Kevin in spore [2008]. please look at her paintings of this thing
i saw the casting announcement for wuthering heights (2026) before reading the book, and assumed that heathcliff’s miscasting was because the character was subtly not white, or it was mentioned here and there without much relevance to the plot beyond subtext, etc. (which still wouldn’t have made it ok btw). but now i’m reading it and every single scene with him in it reads like:
‘then appeared heathcliff, who was not white. he not-white-ly entered the room, where everyone else was white, unlike him. “aah! a not white!” they all shouted. he cried. “i wish i were white,” he said. “don’t worry, maybe your non-white parents were rich in non-white countries,” said nelly. he was then called ten slurs, because he was not white, and left.’
like emily bronte literally beats us over the head with it every five seconds. what do you MEAN they cast jacob fucking elordi
The exception is cheesy local commercials. Those should be the only ads. I will listen to someone who runs a store in my city doing an awkward rap. We once had a furniture store with these awful CGI ads and the slogan “where the deals are so low, it’s almost criminal!” and then they got shut down, by the cops, because it turned out. It turned out the deals were so low because. You’re not going to believe this but the prices were so low it was in fact
