what generation do you fall into?

silent gen (1928-1945)

baby boomer (1946-1964)

gen x (1965-1980)

gen y/millennial (1981-1996)

gen z/iGen (1997-2010)

gen alpha (2010-2024)

(This post is brought to you by the fact that tumblr are, hilariously, claiming that 50% of current users are gen z, and i wanna see how accurate claim that is.)

Edit: so far it looks like there are way less Gen X than I thought there were on here, and way more Gen Z. Huh. How about that. Colour me surprised.

Hilarious

I love how this is just fully proving that point It’s 51.2% now but that’s still close Also never heard of iGen before… just gen z and zoomer the more you know reblog the 0.4% for the boomers and silent gen intrigue me though not many but I’m surprised at older people being here

Fancreators who never plan to use AI: what is your primary reason?

  • I think AI is plagarism
  • I think AI is bad for the environment
  • I think AI would do a worse job than I could
  • I don't want people to judge me
  • I like writing/drawing too much to let AI do it for me
  • Other
  • Not a fancreator/ I do use AI/ see results
just. all of the above it is very much plagiarism it is horrible for the environment I may not have any confidence in my works but I sure as hell know it’s better then ai And writing/drawing is so fun why would I have have an ai do it instead of me? I don’t really care about being judged so just all but that I guess anti ai ai just needs to go and be useful for things we need it for there are so many things we struggle with as humans that ai can be so good for so why is it becoming mainstream for it to takeover what people are *amazing* at? it sucks all rambles at this point even if it’s just in the tags

I really don't understand how "without getting kudos or comments a fanfiction author is going to assume that people who clicked their fic didn't like it" became a controversial take.

I don't know why some people think an author should imagine, or guess that people who click their fic enjoyed it it when nobody is telling them that.

If you're re-reading a fic constantly, or leaving it up in your tab so that it re-loads every day for a hundred days the author is not going to know that unless you tell them. They'd love to hear it. It would make their day.

And if you don't tell them you liked their fic, there's no reason for them to assume you did.

lucifers-legions

Writers on AO3 when they see the hit counter on their fic go up and get an email that someone left kudos or a comment: Yay! People like my story! This made my day!

Writers on AO3 when they see the hit counter on their fic go up but the number of kudos/bookmarks/subscriptions/comments doesn't change: Oh. People are reading my story, but I guess they didn't like it.

Writers on Tumblr when they see notifications on their story: Yay! People are liking my story! Oh, somebody left a nice comment! Oh, they even reblogged it! That was so sweet of them!

Writers on Tumblr when they see 0 notes on their story: Nobody read it.

Also, just for fun, here are the stats for my fanfic with the most hits:

image

Almost half of the comments are my replies, so there are actually 27 individual comments. And almost 27,000 hits. So, basically a 1:10,000 ratio.

Do you still think writers are being unreasonable?

idontlikeseagulls

While 27 comments may not be much when someone gets them gradually, it's a lot to read through to make sure you're not contributing to unintentional spam.

savage-sinister

unintentional spam?? I'm sorry this is just such a foreign idea to me.

I promise you there are vanishingly few authors who would be upset to receive more than one comment saying the same (positive) things!

treesramblings

If I receive multiple emails of comments on something I write, there is an actual zero percent chance of me being upset by it. Literally would make my day, week, month. Love your authors! Comments do not have to be detailed analysis - something as simple as “<3” conveys so much. (In fact, the very first comment I got on AO3 was “<3” and I treasure it.)

dancinbutterfly

Spam your local fic author with comments. You never know what could happen.

They might fall in love with you.

Happened to the Goob author. Happened to me.

prismatic-bell

I made one of my dearest friends this way. And I bet she'd be completely unsurprised to know I still have her comments saved.

Tell 'em how long it's been, @sparklingganymede.

all54321

I have zero trust in the hit system at this point too. My history says I’ve looked at fics a certain amount of times while I very much haven’t, so yeah, I have complex feelings about them which leads to me not caring about what that number is.

So please, if you like a fic interact with it in any way that the author knows you liked it. Bookmark, kudos, comments, just anything to last them know you liked it.

Checking my kudos email every day always brings me joy, no matter how many it is because it means that at least someone found and liked my fic. I have similar feelings about comments, always amazing to read them. I cannot fathom the idea of people not liking being spammed with comments, if someone liked my fic enough to spam comments then that’s awesome.

So, yeah, if you like a fic, tell the author that. Whether it’s simple and small or a long detailed comment/taglist.

all speaks all rambles I go by this too I always feel nervous about leaving too many comments on things but I know that leaving comments make the author happy so I push past that

tbf rather than a skill issue i think the main reasons for scar's absurd amount of deaths in hermitcraft are:

  1. hes always walking around low on hearts without eating
  2. he rarely wears armour, only shoes
  3. grian

and he's more careful on the life series, so only one of those is truly a problem!

whiver-wyverncat

Grian realized he couldn't mess with Scar in the life series like in Hermitcraft after Scar's first Third Life death. so he has restraint there

tillydouspart

and even then, he's caused 3 of scar's 5 final deaths hsldfjkhsldfks (and one of those non-grian deaths was to his snail)

all54321

Adding on, Grian did say he was considering trapping Scar in cobwebs to let his snail get him. So, it was pretty close to 4 seasons.

And yeah, Scar just has a lot less care about making sure he hunger/health is filled on Hermitcraft. Death isn’t exactly a problem on Hermitcraft so it’s pretty fair to not care about dying a lot. Or have less care about staying alive. He’s good at keeping himself alive when dying actually matters.

I do still go insane about the end of SL. Like. In ¾ of the past seasons he both killed Scar and killed the winner. He had no qualms with interrupting Scott and Martyn’s winner monologues, yet Scar? The person who he’s taken out of the series more then not, is the one he spares that fate. He left Scar’s fate in his own hands, that could be poetic I suppose. Scar was the first winner since 3rd Life to have a say in how his final life goes. (And even then, everyone was chanting for Grian’s death…)

…I truly rambled there. I just have a lot of thoughts about this topic, lol

Writing Tips

Punctuating Dialogue

➸ “This is a sentence.”

➸ “This is a sentence with a dialogue tag at the end,” she said.

➸ “This,” he said, “is a sentence split by a dialogue tag.”

➸ “This is a sentence,” she said. “This is a new sentence. New sentences are capitalized.”

➸ “This is a sentence followed by an action.” He stood. “They are separate sentences because he did not speak by standing.”

➸ She said, “Use a comma to introduce dialogue. The quote is capitalized when the dialogue tag is at the beginning.”

➸ “Use a comma when a dialogue tag follows a quote,” he said.

“Unless there is a question mark?” she asked.

“Or an exclamation point!” he answered. “The dialogue tag still remains uncapitalized because it’s not truly the end of the sentence.”

➸ “Periods and commas should be inside closing quotations.”

➸ “Hey!” she shouted, “Sometimes exclamation points are inside quotations.”

However, if it’s not dialogue exclamation points can also be “outside”!

➸ “Does this apply to question marks too?” he asked.

If it’s not dialogue, can question marks be “outside”? (Yes, they can.)

➸ “This applies to dashes too. Inside quotations dashes typically express—“

“Interruption” — but there are situations dashes may be outside.

➸ “You’ll notice that exclamation marks, question marks, and dashes do not have a comma after them. Ellipses don’t have a comma after them either…” she said.

➸ “My teacher said, ‘Use single quotation marks when quoting within dialogue.’”

➸ “Use paragraph breaks to indicate a new speaker,” he said.

“The readers will know it’s someone else speaking.”

➸ “If it’s the same speaker but different paragraph, keep the closing quotation off.

“This shows it’s the same character continuing to speak.”

I did not know the action one huh reblogging because it’s the best way to save this

Broken notes… deactivated account… removed image….

Finally, we have them all.

In addition: OP’s name is just… gone. No “[insert username]-deactivated[insert a bunch of numbers]” as is the standard for deactivated blogs.

Just the world “deactivated.” Look upon their post, ye mighty, and despair.

It’ll be almost impossible to find this post unless it wanders across your dash.

It also only has 1 note. Truly a broken post

Gotta love when Tumblr posts break, always so wild. Especially with the deactivated account just being “deactivated”, that one’s new.
