Hypothetical question about languages (poll)

If I was to release a mod that gave more naming options for sims, animals, and the other things controlled by that file, would you want it to be additions to other languages or replace other languages? In English, I’m removing some (a very small number, for the most part) of the originals, but I wouldn’t be willing to do that for other languages, since I don’t know the languages or the context of the names.

The way it works is that for each language included in the game, there’s a list for most things included in the file. Some seem to work from the English list for everything except languages that don’t use the same alphabet at all (Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Russian). My version will work for in-game names for NPCs and in CAS for humans and pets.

I’m assuming I have people following who play the game in languages other than English, and there’s not much point in even installing it if you don’t want the extra names, right? So I’d like opinions on what to do with the non-English language names. I’m not doing multiple versions, so majority rules.

Important point: for languages with different male and female last names, they would be the same. Since most are in English, and English doesn’t split surnames by gender (except for servos, apparently, but that’s not helpful), there’s no way to make different lists. And there there’s at least one time that I grabbed a name from a gendered last name list for the English last name list, and it would be included there. The comments are as open as I can make them, so if you have an opinion that doesn’t fit in the poll, go ahead and comment on the patreon post, or reply here if you prefer that.

What’s included in the file:

  • Regular names used by most sims in game (it’s also the CAS name list)
  • Indian names (City Living)
  • Islander names (Island Living)
  • Japanese names (City Living and Snowy Escape)
  • Latin names (Jungle Adventure)
  • Moroccan names (City Living) – may or may not be expanded to include other African names
  • Native American names (Horse Ranch)
  • Southeast Asian names (For Rent)
  • Cat names (first only, they have no last names by default; including first names in CAS)
  • Dog names (first only, they have no last names by default; including first names in CAS)
  • Horse names (first only, they have no last names by default; including first names in CAS)
  • Familiars (Realm of Magic)
  • Fox names (first and last, with a 50% chance of them getting a last name; Cottage Living)
  • Servo names (separate for NPC servos and created servos; Discover University)
  • Skeleton names (Jungle Adventure)
  • Plopsy customer names (Nifty Knitting)
  • Trendi customer names (High School Years)
  • Batuu names (First Order, general, and Stormtrooper)

It’s all or nothing. It’s one BIG file. It can’t be modular, and it has to be an override. The name lists for specific nationalities may have some names added that aren’t from that nationality, because of the tendency of those lists to drown out other name lists OR the templates to apply inappropriately–I’m not sure of the cause, but it definitely happens.

For other kinds of names, I have a mod here for most animals and animal homes plus cowplants (will be added to soon, since I found more). And I’m planning to add more More Names mods, since I did find more things that have naming templates–I’m not doing it until Core Library is updated though, since it has an option to inject the name template list overrides for things named that way instead of overriding everything, which is far more stable and less conflict prone, but it’s not working right now.

More Animal Names

More Names for Object Animals, Their Homes, and Cowplants

I was tired of having most of my chicks want the name Salsa, so I went looking for a mod for that. I found one, but it’s very outdated. So I made one myself. This will give you a wider variety of preset names for Goats, Sheep, Chickens and coops, Cows and Llamas and sheds, Rabbits and stumps, Bird Trees, and Cowplants, including modded ones if they use the same tuning.

This is an override mod. You can only have one mod that overrides each of the files I changed. But I don’t know of any mods that override the same files. My changes:

Any of the names can appear randomly whenever you go to rename one of those things. Some are serious, some are funny, some are terrible puns.

I’m open to suggestions for more, but there’s no guarantee that I’ll take the suggestions. I’m unlikely to take suggestions for names based on people who are alive or who were alive within the last couple of decades, for food that the animals may get turned into (or restauranta), or for euphemisms (or not euphemisms) for NSFW things or poop (there are a lot of poop names for chickens). Terrible puns are welcome though. Most importantly, I have to like the names, since I made this for myself first and foremost.

Base game compatible, but if you don’t have Horse Ranch or Cottage Living, all you’ll get is names for Cowplants. It does NOT affect the names of cats, dogs, or horses.

I will not be separating it into different versions.

Update to Fairly Fair Gates to add a Fence and a Fence Override (bug fix)

I’ve added a version of the fence without lights, to match the light-free gate.

And an override for the in-game fence, to add back the posts that go missing in certain circumstances. I’m calling this a bugfix, because I can’t imagine anyone wants a fence with pieces missing.

No Fires for Radiators

It always bothered me that the radiators could catch on fire…so I made this very simply mod to reduce the percentage of them catching on fire to 0!

No/Less Autonomous Bucket List Goals

A tiny mod to prevent sims from getting bucket list goals autonomously–they’ll need to choose to add them–or to make them happen less often.

I would recommend using my Unlock Specific Bucket List Goals for All mod unless along with this.

In the No Autonomous version, I blacklisted humans (as opposed to pets, not related to occults) from being valid participants.

In the Less Autonomous version, I limited it to a long countdown. By default, when a sim wakes up, if they don’t already have one, they’ll get a buff that will count down for 4, 5, or 7 days randomly. With this file, they’ll still get random bucket list goals, but now it will be after one or two weeks.

If your sim already has a buff to get a random bucket list goal, they will still get it if you don’t remove it. The buffs you need to remove would be:

  • buff_UnfinishedBusiness_AutonomousGoalGain_Short
  • buff_UnfinishedBusiness_AutonomousGoalGain_Medium
  • buff_UnfinishedBusiness_AutonomousGoalGain_Long

You can do this using MCCC. Click on the sim, then: MCCC > MC Cheats > Cheat Sim Info > Mood/Buff Control > Remove Buff > OK > find the buff and click it. I would NOT recommend removing all buffs, as it can have unintended and weird consequences.

Requires Life and Death

Overrides `randomWeightedLoot_UnfinishedBusiness_StartGoalCountdown`and will conflict with anything that also overrides it.

Ingenius Ingvar Slot Override

An override of the Ingenius Ingvar Cool Display Case from Businesses & Hobbies to have more and better slots, as requested after I made Ingenius Ingvar Short.

The shelves don’t have quite as many slots, due to clipping issues on the top shelf since it’s shallower than on the shorter edits. But the top now has four large slots added that weren’t on the original.

You’ll need to use move objects to access all slots at once. The top slots are difficult to access, probably since it’s glass. I found it easier if I was looking at it from around eye level and straight on, not at an angle.

No Stinky Customers

Very very quick and small mod to stop what seems like every customer from showing up at a small business from having hygiene deep in the red. I expect a business to have toilets, but not a shower (unless that is your business).

Sims will still show up with low bladder, but not quite as low as before. I changed it from between -85 and -70 to between -70 and -50. They should be able to make it to the toilet.

Made because the mod I was going to use was discontinued, and I need a version of this that I know isn’t going to disappear or break without being updated.

I will not be making a version without the bladder need. It feels realistic to me.

This is an override. It will conflict with Waffle’s (obsolete) Less Pissy Customers and part of Marquillo’s Small Businesses Overhaul
