As you are probably aware about our main character,

Our series picks up literally right at the end of the movie, and follows the characters over the years through high school! The story is slice of life style, with themes of friendship, family, love, growing up and finding who you are (with merpeople, of course). There are lots of ups and downs, but ultimately it’s all about continuing the story with the same beats of whimsicality, fantasy, friendship, and love that make the movie so memorable.

I’m watching Splash (1984) which is a romcom about a guy who falls in love with a mermaid, and when she chooses a human name she chooses Madison and guy says “that’s not a real name, but alright” which seems to imply that Madison was not a name until at least the 80’s and all girls named Madison are actually named after the mermaid. thought you should know

what with the new Little Mermaid coming out soon I am thing about occasional references in the series (and maybe references to come????) and thought it might be a humorous detail to share that when I was coming up with character middle names, I considered making Jess's middle name "Eric" but decided that was too on the nose lol

how have I not shared the trailer that is essentially just a complete recap of the Entire plot lol

like there is literally no plot point left to the imagination by this, it's a minute and a half version of everything that happens in the movie

Underrated scene that I'd make gifs of if I knew how to make gifs: Cody sticking to the juice carton and then confusedly staring at his hands like "what is going on" and Sharon notices this and is immediately like "oh OK we're doing hand-contemplation interpretive dance got it got it" and starts mirroring him

Whit being about to join them and then realizing what he was doing Cody taking after his human parents is something that is so important to me inheriting some of Sharon's weirdness is a fun one the thirteenth year

General note!

First off, my computer is still on life support, but the new one is ready for pickup today, so should get back to writing/updating soon. In the meantime, wanted to make a quick post about a couple questions/concepts:

I am still incredibly flattered and wowed by this, but I have had a few conversations with readers about fanfic of CTDL (like not just of The Thirteenth Year, specifically of the series - using the plots, events, OCs, etc). When talking about it one-on-one, I know I've said a couple different things, but I've gotten the question often enough that I've decided on a general stance:

While I cannot stop you (and will not try to, nor spam-hate, nor denounce, or anything like that), I would request everyone to please do not publish fanfic of/based on Creatures That Defy Logic until the series is complete. I have a variety of thoughts/reasons for this - again, I am so blown away and thriled that people have asked - but I would like to finish the story as I intended to tell it before opening up that space.

That said, character last names/assigned names (mostly referring to Evelyn Wheatley, Sam/Heather/Pete etc who I gave last names to), feel free to use! I am proud to contribute to 'fanon' character details like that.

On a smaller note (again, shocked and flattered that I have gotten this question multiple times), if someone wanted to create a TVTropes page for the series, go for it! I have found some great fanfic recs there and would be honored if someone wanted to make such a page.

Thank you all so much once again for reading this series. I didn't quite know what to expect when I started posting it, but the mini fandom that has grown up around it has been so incredibly amazing and wonderful to see and contribute to.
