It's a very confusing setup, between moe/slice of life and survival horror. While there are strong moments, there are also weak, redundant, boring ones too.
Overall ? It was a nice mix of sweet/tearjerker. I just wish it was a bit less... Burlesque, there is a big part of it.
If there was a continuation to happen (there is a cliffhanger) I wish to see it.

This one really loves throwing curve balls. The first episode is tremendously misleading, and it's pretty clear that was the intent of the writers.
The series sets up the scenario, the characters, and the drama very well. It cleanly shows what people will do to survive, both in terms of physical and mental coping.
If you're on the fence, I doubt you'll regret watching this, it is far better than ratings allow, especially for those who love zombie related series.

If you want a school-themed zombie survival series that is serious, emotional and more importantly, lacks fanservice of any kind and over-the-top action and comedic performances (ahem, Gakuen Mokushiroku: High School of the Dead), then check this out! A child-like main character with an unique way to look at things, a well-scripted team of other characters that support and protect her and a disturbing post-apocalyptic school setting are the selling points this series offers. Add that to the talent from titans of the Japanese voice-acting industry, such as Minase Inori, Mao, Kayano Ai and Takahashi Rie, and you have a entertaining and touching anime which gives you something to think about.
Very sad, yet cheerful, in a distorted and unique way, this is highly recommended for zombie fans and slice of life viewers looking for something different, if crude.

An interesting (new) aproach to the whole Zombie Apocalypse theme. Beforehand; there is not that much action going on and the story is kinda slow paced. The focus is rather on the characters emotional side and how they cope with/try to survive the situation.
Sometimes the plot makes you go "meh" and the animation is not over the top either but with some nice twists Gakkougurashi is nonetheless recommendable!

don't misjudge this because of its cover! It's not a kawaii daily-life school anime at all! And it's really underrated.
In fact, it reminds me "Madoka" for the kawaii coating masks Something dark.
It also made me think to the movie "La vita e bella". (I think you'll understand why if you Watch). It's impossible to explain better without spoiling, sorry.
This said, it's not a masterpiece tough, but it could have been. The viewpoint changes many times in the first episodes. That bored me a little, tough I understand it was to be done for the plot.

Can't understand the review rating, but it is only one vote anyway. It is a very heart shaking anime. So if your are not to sensitive for these things (look at the tags), this is definitive an anime you can enjoy. Without spoiling too much, but there is need of a sequel ^^
