I have really mixed feelings about this anime, it was the first thing that I started from Fall 2017 and the last one that I finished. While I see and understand the greatness of the story and I can highly recommend it to watch, I had big problems to personally deal with it. The whole image of this title is rather very, very melancholic, I felt like it's putting me into depression ;p
What I hated the most was the way this anime manipulates with watcher's feelings, it really mastered it like nothing I have watched before. Sometimes I felt really sad, sometimes almost crying and sometimes very happy, it pushed me away from it, I had to do many breaks... And the last disadvantage - the whole romance thing seems senseless to me, it didn't work for me, Elias is magic creature with no human body, I guess I don't need to explain this huge gap in logic.
Both series carry an air of normalcy in a mystical situation. They present day to day life in the dealings of the supernatural. They both have vastly different premises: Mushishi being about taking care of the spirits that haunt certain places, MahoYome being about an eldritch creature taking on a human as an apprentice and wife. However, despite their differences, the way both anime present themselves is relaxed and calm.
What you are looking for here is essentially a fascinating way to explore the various creatures they interact with based on Wicca and Mushi for MahoYome and Mushishi respectfully. So while there are quite a bit of contrast between the two, exploration of these topics out of curiosity is the most compelling reason to be drawn toward these anime. If you are looking for an experience like that, both are identical in that regard.
