Adds a commonality with the issues of school life and safe spaces where one can flourish and keep pushing to better themselves wrapped in the context of a fairy tale. The first thing I was wondering was what was the catch, the big reveal happened closer to the end and solving of the mystery felt a little too magical.
On the whole quite liked it and it addresses an important social issue in Japan which I was first introduced to years ago of the hikikomori.

As someone who went through bullying and anxiety for most of my school years, and also lost a beloved and precious family member when I was little, this movie really resonated with me, and hit me pretty hard, emotionally. Consequently, I really enjoyed it, and it made me feel happy, warm and fuzzy afterwards. :) I guess that's why I like movies like this so much. I love A Silent Voice, and When Marnie Was There is my favourite Ghibli movie. Good movies are great, but when those movies also connect with me on a personal level, that's when my personal enjoyment of those movies is truly elevated to the highest level. It doesn't matter that there are other, "better" movies out there; for me, the good movies that connect with me will always be my favourites, and personal "bests". I imagine it's the same for everyone (or most people, anyway).

It felt emotional and all, not too romance-focused, talking about school anxiety (so if you had one, there is few stuffs about harassment)... But the whole story wasn't really making sense to me. Maybe there was too much children (7 for only 2h film !) to flesh out each one... So in the end everything it felt like a rush job on a pretty nonsensical premise.

I didn’t really like the concept of this castle's existence, but the story itself, places where they came from and the relationship between the characters was very interesting. I would say that the rating 7 is quite fair.
