Most people are ableist, which is why most of us don’t think that ableism is oppressive, demeaning, dehumanizing, or a real social justice cause.
Deep down, most of us think disabled people should be condescended to, pitied, or eliminated rather than listened to, supported, and empowered.
Most of us think disabled people require executioners instead of accomplices.
And we continue not to hold ourselves to account.
