1970s ranch house

Q: Please help. I see so many pictures of midcentury ranches, but what do I do with a ranch house that was built in the 1970s? My house is dark on the inside, with a tiny kitchen and has a lot of old-fashioned shutters, lights, and wallpaper. I just don't know where to start or if I should just move.
