Burnt sugar frosting

This frosting tastes exactly like Brown Sugar Fudge (we call it Penuche around here). It is a fantastic topping for Chocolate, Spice or Banana Cake) and is easy to make and spread (it does harden a bit on standing though). Really delicious (especially if you make sure and use REAL butter....margarine just doesn't create the same taste).

Only the most amazing brown sugar icing or frosting you ever had!

My mother was born in 1895 and had quite a recipe collection from her mother and her own early years. These recipes were primarily written on the backs of used envelopes as paper cost money. There was not a lot of room on the envelopes; only a list of ingredients was written down. When my oldest sister copied them into a notebook, she did not add mixing and baking instructions.
