There are a handful of moments that can truly be said to have changed not just the course of history, but also the way we live.

The world's first successful airplane, the Wright Flyer flew four times on December 17, 1903. Shortly after its last flight, a gust of wind overturned and wrecked the fragile machine. It never flew again. The airplane was restored in 1927 and again in 1984-85. The fabric was replaced both times, but most of the rest of the airplane is original.
