Alphabet, digraph and site word hopscotch for pre-k and Kindergarten. As they jump on the letter or word they say the sounds each make or the site word. We did this today in our reading summer school class and the kids enjoyed it. I'm sure this or something similar can be done for older kids too.

My kids enjoy down time as I prep lessons with their alphatrain floor puzzle, I was lucky enough to find ours at a garage sale for next to nothing a couple of years ago. Not only does my toddler get letter and puzzle learning time, but he loves to crawl along the train when it's done shouting, "Choo-chooooo!" :) Even though my kindergartner knows her letters already, she still has fun with it, and because the letters are all scrambled in the box, it makes her think about the order they go…

This adaptation of hopscotch can encourage stage 1 students to practice naming letters and/or sounds as they jump on each square. As the students get more comfortable, they can start to spell two letter words with two squares. The activity therefore supports letter formation, identification, and sound as the students change the hop scotch arrangement.
