It describes what I (sort of) expected daily life to be like in little less than a decade from when it was written. Warning: it's quite tech-focused (because of the class). I just loved the story too much to leave it on my professor's pile and not do anything with it. One-shot.

(A direct sequel to Dancing with the Fireflies, set around a year from now in Summer 2025. Trouble strikes the extended Nill family once again when Sherri’s ex-con ex-husband Bo breaks parole and kidnaps their 5-year-old twins Huckleberry and Magnolia. And Heather and Lily get some surprising news from their dad Steve which complicates things even further. But the family's learned to greet chaos like an old friend. It's made them resilient enough to overcome every curveball life's thrown at them so far. So, they'll survive this, too. They have to. Because now only two things are certain: 1) Failing to get the twins back isn't an option and 2) the consequences of past actions can't simply be ignored or denied...especially not when they're your living, breathing kin.
But maybe, when this is all over, the family they were always meant to be will finally come to fruition...

"Can I help you?" Derek says from the counter without looking up.
"Uh," Stiles says as the door swings shut behind him. "You tell me?"
The sweaters are sorted by size, then color—this would be Lydia's kind of place if everything were twenty years older and cost four times as much. Stiles can smell the ones that Derek's handled, the ones that he's lingered over, a selection that's kind of terrifying. The best has white-on-black zebra print spiraling up the arms and a huge zebra head rearing on the front. “You need to add this to your collection.” Stiles holds it up. “It’s fierce. It suits you.”
Derek raises an eyebrow. “That's $7.00 plus tax."
“Fine," Stiles says. He drops the sweater on the counter, hanger and all. "Ring me up, baby.” He leans forward and braces himself on the counter with his palms.
Derek stares at him for a long moment. Finally, he says, “$7.49.”
Stiles pulls a ten out of his wallet. “Put it on.”
The cash register pings, the drawer springs open. Stiles's heartbeat throbs in his ears, too loud, as Derek counts out his change. Derek stands up to pull the sweater on; he wriggles his way into the too-wide, too-short sleeves like he's performing a striptease in reverse, swims into the stretched collar, showing his belly. Literally. The sweater’s plus-size, but cut for someone with a much shorter torso. On Derek, it’s practically a crop top.
“Wow.” Stiles says. He covers his mouth with his hand. “Wow, I didn’t—”
“You were right,” Derek says, straightening. “It’s fierce.”

Excellent though desperately needs epilogue or sequel.
"Sherlock,” John chastises, so much like Angelo, so much like Mrs. Hudson and every member of the Lestrade family. “You’re not eating, you’re vomiting blood. I know for a fact you haven’t had anything to drink in a day. Nothing about this is good.” Sherlock wonders, vaguely, if all humans of quality perfect this exact tone of voice.
While he ponders this, the touch on his shoulder becomes inordinately still. The contact isn’t removed, it doesn’t break or waver, but it abruptly becomes deliberate. It’s a touch designed to neither alert nor alarm, not to comfort.
This is the full extent of warning he receives.
A slap of motion pins him to the floor, arms twisted behind his back and secured by a rough grip and a blunt knee. Winded, Sherlock makes the mistake of struggling. It isn’t a mistake he makes for long.
“You bit me,” says a voice from above him, a voice so terribly like John’s and yet utterly incongruous. This is the sound of controlled rage and absolute conviction. “I’m not worn out, this is blood loss, and you’re not in enough pain to be vomiting that much blood. It was my leg, that’s why it turns. It’s not acting up again – you bit me.”
“John,” he tries to respond.
He is interrupted by the cold press of a blade against his neck.
“Not one word,” John orders. “Not one. I won’t be bewitched.”
Cheek against the matted thresh, his breathing quick and shallow, Sherlock knows better than to nod.
Instead, he cries.

Over on the grass, Erik and Xavier started apart, Erik with narrowed eyes, and Xavier with an embarrassed flush on his cheeks, then they walked pointedly and further away, falling back into conversation.
"I think I've been scarred for life," Hank said, with a moan, his head in his hands. "Did I just second-hand kiss your dad? I need therapy."
"If you think you're... look, I just second-hand kissed my dad!" Alex growled, rubbing hastily at his own mouth, "And that is far more fucked up!"

Hank, in the same crummy suit with the same crummy briefcase, is waiting for him when he gets shuffled through release procedures, and looks like he's repressing all sorts of feelings extra hard. Next to him is Lehnsherr, looking impassive, and Alex would ask one of them, either of them, what the hell is going on, except there's this guy tying something to his ankle."The monitor will run 24 hours a day, and will have a geolocation on you to within 5 feet," the man is saying, sounding bored about everything. "It's a combined portable reflector pack and a tracker. You try anything stupid, your handler will flip it back on you. You try to run, it'll ping us when you hit your 2 mile radius."
Alex says, "Uh."
"Unless your handler calls it in," the guy clarifies. "If you guys are out of state or whatever, call it to central switchboard, and we'll just make sure he's tracking within reasonable distance — we clear?"
Alex stares for a while.
"Yes, that's clear," Hank jumps in, practically vibrating out of his skin he's so excited.
"Clear as day," Lehnsherr agrees, and glances at Alex. "Understood, kid?"
"First off, stop fucking calling me that, I'm 24," Alex barks. "And secondly, who is my handler?"
Because being sent to jail, breaking out of jail because his brother's gone missing, being re-sent to jail, having Hank McCoy as a best friend and the fucking FBI all over his dick isn't bad enough, this is when Alex learns that he's now Lehnsherr's pet mutant CI.
"Surprise," Lehnsherr says, dry as tinder. "I can tell you're thrilled."

“Would you like to have coffee with me?” Charles blurts.
Erik arches his eyebrow again and runs a searching gaze across him, like he’s an x-ray that can pick out all the ridiculous shameful bits of Charles’ life and draw them out into the light.
“No,” he says.
“Are you sure?” Charles asks.
“Still no,” Erik tells him. “But congratulations on being the first parent to hit on me during a meeting about their child’s welfare.”
“I’m hardly a parent,” Charles protests, and: “do I get a certificate of some kind?”
Erik looks thoughtful for a long moment and then reaches into his desk drawer and extracts a sticky gold star.
“Please leave,” he says levelly, and returns to his coffee.
“Well?” Raven says as Charles comes out.
Charles holds up one fingertip with the gold star on it.
“No,” Raven says, “absolutely no. I do not, under any circumstances, give you permission to sleep with my guidance counsellor.”
Charles sighs. Still, he can work on it.

Spock stared at him for a long time while Jim tried not to panic, tried to tread water above the crazy red-hot oblivion he'd been drowning in ten minutes ago, sedatives be damned. Then Spock's shoulders relaxed and his expression shifted subtly, and most importantly his thumb traced over Jim's knuckle in a caress that sent Jim cold and then hot all over.
"You will infuriate me every day until you die, anyway," said Spock.

After Magneto of an X2-ish future succeeds in the unthinkable, Charles sends his consciousness back to 1962 to guide Erik away from the path that will lead to the genocide of the human race forty years hence.
Charles knows that Erik has always loved him, and intends to use this knowledge + sex to seduce Erik away from his ideals in his youth.
There's no way this well-thought-out, sensible, debugged and 100% bulletproof plan can possibly go wrong.

When he retires to his room at the end of the first night, he realizes that Erik hasn't yet kidnapped him fifty-three times from out of this window (thirty-nine times in mid-to-late October or early November, within two weeks either way of the anniversary every year to follow, with the sole exception of 1979; ten times because he was upset about something or other and wanted to hint around about comfort sex for a week; and four times because of plots he didn't want Charles ruining. As for 1979, that was the year Charles decided he didn't feel like being kidnapped and moved bedrooms, which resulted in Erik wandering the halls knocking on doors asking for him and frightening the children, so that by the following year Charles had moved back).
