I'd always kept my emotional defenses tighter than the Blackwall, and that night in Konpeki Plaza had just reinforced my belief that I was doomed to get anyone that got close to me killed. And to top it all off, my brain was slowly getting written over by a narcissistic rockerboy whose only source of entertainment was giving me shit. So even if somehow there was sincerity behind Viktor's flirtatious banter, it would be nothing but cruelty to let someone in now when I was destined to slowly fade away.

"I’m in no mood for pranks..” Vik answered the phone, voice more stern then she’s ever heard it.
“Hey..Vik..” When V saw his face practically light up, she’d be lying if she said it didn’t make her feel better. His voice was the one she wanted to hear the most, and the one she was the most scared to hear. Hoping and praying he wouldn’t reject her like the rest of her “friends”.
After giving him a brief run down of what has transpired and why she was gone for 2 years, the words she was hoping to hear were finally said.
“Come see me, V” He told her without hesitation."

She has spent the last few months grieving and unable to be intimate with anyone else, and this news makes her realize that it is time to move on.

"What the hell are you doing here anyway, kid? Can't you see I'm busy?" Vik gives V a look over the rim of his glasses[...]
"Vik, you and I both know you're gonna just sit in that chair and fall asleep watching the match." V jerks his chin toward the drone of the TV set. It's obvious that Vik rolls his eyes even behind the tinted lenses. [...] "Just take the free booze and company, doc. Live a little." [...]
Vik fires up his most put-upon sigh when he makes his way over and plops down into his desk chair. It swivels a little into the momentum of his weight but hardly budges against the practiced scuff of his heel against the floor that keeps both the screen and V in his view. His eyebrows rise expectantly.
Under the wither of Vik's tired stare, V grabs one of the cans and thumbs it open, offering it with a cheeky wiggle in front of Vik's nose. Finally, begrudgingly, Vik gives in.

V has spent most of her life playing by the rules set by other people in her life. She chafes under the control. But she’s given an opportunity to restart her life across the country in Night City. The Welles family and the community within El Coyote Cojo have provided that opportunity with great love and welcome.
But she’s not out of the woods yet. V gets the chance to try out the edgerunner lifestyle and determine her own rules.
Jackie is determined to make a name for himself in NC- maybe even carve his name among the legends alongside his girl Misty.
Viktor Vektor, Night City boxing legend, or at least as close as one can get to the title without flatlining it first. Being a ripperdoc is the ring he climbs in now, and a hot-headed agent of anarchy has just walked her way into his life.
