Maomao was instantly on guard. This sounded like another one of Suiren’s or Jinshi’s set-ups. I’ll have to get him out of bed, eh? Sounds fishy. Except... Suiren’s expression was not its usual picture of perfect calm. She seemed genuinely disturbed.
“Okay...” Maomao said hesitantly. “Why can’t he get out of bed?”
“He simply refuses to.”
“What? Are you sure he’s not just being a child?” Her hands flew to her mouth. Oops. I probably shouldn’t have said that.
Gaoshun put his head in his hands. Taomei jabbed him with her elbow immediately and he resumed his neutral expression, albeit with a furrowed brow. Suiren took the comment in stride, however. “I know it sounds odd. But he hasn’t done any work for the past two days.”
