He folds himself into it and closes his eyes as it sways gently, trying to think happy thoughts. It doesn't work for long as doubt creeps in as it's wont to do.
"This is hell," he whispers, blinking open his eyes to grin crazily up at the treetops, "I'm in hell."

Without looking at his mother, Peter added, “He smelled me yesterday.”
The smile tugging at Lynda’s mouth faded. Peter was grateful his mom never pitied him for any of the exhausting shit life dealt him (or that he found all by himself), but only an asshole wold begrudge her the right to worry about her baby boy from time to time.
“You think Roman knows why he’s here?”
Peter shook his head. Someone reasonable might have trouble connecting the dots, and Roman was the smartest fucking idiot he’d ever met.
