Ed felt his heart stumble a bit in his chest. A Roy Mustang who wasn’t cocksure, ambitious, a fucking iron fortress, was a man Ed hardly even knew. He’d seen some of it—the soft heart beneath—under Central Command. Down there the rage on Mustang’s face was as familiar to Ed as breathing. Now, he didn’t know what to do with Mustang’s trepidation. It made him feel as lost as Roy looked.
Roy—not the Colonel. Not a general. Not a bastard. Maybe a friend. Certainly an ally.

Summary
After the death of King Bradley, and with it the rest of the Homunculi, Olivier Mira Armstrong became the interim Fuhrer President until elections were held. Outraged by the fact that the State Military is still running the country, the Persona Rapid Forces, which it consists of the Specialized Extracurricular Execution Squad, the Investigation Team, the Phantom Thieves of Hearts, the New Hundred Militia and the Korean Drama Task Force, launched a rebellion against the government to demand that the doctrine of civilian control of the military to be established. Afterwards, both sides announced a truce and sent representatives for treaty negotiations. The Elric Treaty was then signed by the representatives of both sides. But the clauses of the treaty split both the Persona Rapid Forces and the Amestris National Guard, a multi-national military force, which would escalate to the point of civil war in the next few months.

Summary
It's been six years since the Promised Day and Ed's life hasn't become any less chaotic. A member of Resembool's town council, he finds himself strapped for cash as Amestris faces an economic downturn it hasn't seen in nearly a century while Winry continues to help those without funds. Seeking salvation, he calls upon a favor from Roy Mustang and finds himself a professor at East City University teaching the next generation of alchemists.
At the same time, Führer Grumman suddenly dies of a stroke, two years from Amestris' first federal election and General Mustang finds himself in the middle of a campaign to become the next ruler of his country far before he expected he'd need to be ready. All while war between Creta and Drachma continues to loom large overhead.
Alphonse, meanwhile, is trapped in Xing after Drachma strong-armed the weaker nation into preventing westward travel. Stuck in the midst of its own crisis, Al has to find a way out of Xing and back to his family in Amestris before a mysterious new threat arrives.
