Rook chose to save Minrathous over Treviso, because she couldn't bear to leave her home and the people who depend on her to the mercies of a blighted Dragon and a host of racist blood mages.
But her decision shattered the trust she had built with Lucanis, and left a void where something had been growing between them. Can they find a way to bridge the gap between them again?(Yes, they can, but it takes them a while, because they're both idiots.)

Summary

“That’s not fear.” Lucanis rubs his eyes, their eyes. Tired. Always tired. “That’s love.”
Love. Sound it out in the mind. This warmth, this mysterious lightness, this thing so close to fear, to being afraid. So close to the thing felt as they were strapped together in the Ossuary. So close to the thing felt as Lucanis leaned against the pantry wall and chased the warmth of Rook’s mouth. So close to the thing felt as Illario stared at them across the room, bored to death but not allowed to die.
“Are. You sure?” Asked cautiously. But curious.
Lucanis chuckles. Soft sound, fading quickly in the air of the villa, as though the villa eats laughter. “Yes. I’m sure.”
