Summary
It didn’t matter how many times people told Charlie he was strong and brave, Nick and Geoff could both say it til they were blue in the face and Charlie still wouldn’t really believe them.
He might have gone through a lot over the last few years and yes, done things he’d been scared of doing but when he’s been loitering outside Sainsbury's for nearly 20 minutes, too scared to go in, he didn’t feel brave at all.
What he did feel was stupid and silly, because Sainsbury’s was not the halls of Truham, it was not having to tell your parents your mental health was deteriorating, it was not taking his shirt off in front of his boyfriend for the first time, it was not playing in front of a live screaming audience, it’s a fucking grocery store.
And yet, Charlie couldn’t get this stupid body to cooperate and walk into the damn building and buy his stupid groceries. Charlie was close to god damn tears over too, he could feel them welling up in his eyes and it was everything he could do, to stop them from spilling over. It was bad enough so many people were probably watching him walk back and forth in front of the door, probably thinking he was a complete nutter for not being able to go inside.

Summary
The second Charlie opened his eyes, he knew he’d overslept. There was way too much sun coming into his room. There was a distinct lack of sounds coming from the common area. Usually in the morning, Jake was like a bull in a china shop, bumbling around looking for all of the things he tossed everywhere instead of in their right place. There was a lack of coffee smell too, which meant either the end of the world, or Katrina had already left for the morning. There hadn’t been a single day in months that she wasn’t up and brewing by the time Charlie’s alarm was going off.
“Ugh,” he grumbled, sitting up and reaching for his phone.
Which wasn’t anywhere on his nightstand, where he thought he’d left it the night before.
He sat up, swinging his legs over the bed and looking to the ground, happy to spot his phone face down. It took him a moment to get the energy to bend down and pick it up.
10:13 am.
Yup, he just slept through his 9:00 am lecture and is well on his way to missing his 10:30 class.

Summary
The bowl of cereal in front of Charlie was wholly unappetizing.
“Ready?” Tori asked him, appearing so suddenly, it made him jump. He answered with a glare, walking over and dumping the soggy cereal and milk into the trash. Thankfully his Mum was busy getting Olly ready for school and couldn’t witness just how much food Charlie didn’t eat.
Tori took that as her answer, disappearing into the hallway as Charlie followed behind. The weather had remained rather chilly and Charlie welcomed the ability to still wear his heavy winter coat. Not only did it protect against the cold, it added another layer of protection over Charlie himself. The more clothing he wore, the better he was hidden to the world around him.
Tori didn’t try to engage him any further, especially when he placed his earbuds in as soon as they stepped outside. Sometimes he wasn’t even listening to anything, preferring yet another barrier between him and the outside world, a sign that he wasn’t one to engage with.
But it wasn’t like many people engaged with him now anyway.
