Summary
Mary watched, her heart absolutely aching, as her lover climbed through the window—so surely and confidently, without even looking back, the golden monkey trotting along at her heels (although he did look back).
Mary wondered, briefly, if this was what being without one's daemon felt like, and if the pull at her heart was the same one which tugged at Marisa whenever she sent monkey away.
Did she feel it, too? Was her steady march forward simply the coping mechanism of a torn-apart heart?
