    Protecting the city from supernatural menaces is a burden, but field agent Lan Zhan has always borne that burden without complaint. Then one night, he meets Wei Ying, a vampire in need of rescue. A very pretty, very pathetic vampire. Lan Zhan will mentor this ridiculous vampire, but he is absolutely going to complain about it.

    At age 12, Wei Ying runs away from Lotus Pier with help of his shijie and his shidi. He ends up finding a better life with a ghost and a god. But all things end in tragedy.

    “San Lang,” Xie Lian starts, turning to his husband in righteous fury.

    “Gege, this one is sorry. I–I don’t know how I wasn’t informed the moment they were reborn. This should never have happened.” His tone reflects the pained anger in Xie Lian’s heart, no doubt reminded of his own harsh childhood so long ago.

    “We’ll discover why we weren’t informed soon enough, but for now, we need to put a stop to this.” Xie Lian grips his husband’s hands. “We have been a duo for quite a long time, and I know taking in two mortal children will only end in heartbreak for us, but I beg you, San Lang, let us take Jiang Wanyin and Wei Wuxian with us and give them the love they deserve.”

    OR: Xie Lian and Hua Cheng watched as Jiang Cheng and Wei Wuxian endured tragedy then drifted apart in their first lives. They pledge to ensure the two brothers will find happiness once they are reincarnated, even if that means adopting two precocious and somewhat traumatized seven-year-olds.
