Work Text:
The second he was sure that the carnival had closed for the night, Spencer snuck his way in. It was a simple task, really–he used a stick on the ground to pick the lock and weaved around all the security cameras. The real challenge would be setting up the trap.
He’d wanted to wait a little bit longer–plan this a little bit more intricately. But everyone was onto him: Ian, his bandmates…even some fans were starting to ask questions.
If he waited too long, he’d be caught, and then he’d never get his revenge.
But it was okay, because it would all be over soon. Ian was going to die tonight, and Spencer's nine-year-old self would finally be satisfied.
He snuck his way into the back of one of the boat rides, unearthed the chemicals from his bag, and tucked them behind one of the animatronics. Better to do this first. These things were volatile as Hell.
As he was hooking them up, he couldn't help but feel nostalgic. He had vivid memories of coming to this carnival with his family, and this boat ride was his favorite. His sister's, too. She'd been the one to beg him to ride up front with her once he was old enough to. He was sure his parents hadn't minded–they’d always lean back with their arms around each other. They must’ve thought the ride was romantic.
A lump began to form in his throat as he pictured it. It felt wrong, being back here without them. Like their ghosts were watching his every move–as was the ghost of the little boy whose innocence was stolen.
But if they were here, he hoped they could at least see what he was going to do. He hoped they'd be smiling from Heaven as the man responsible for their deaths got sent to Hell.
Maybe this place that once held painful memories could finally bring him some joy again.
Once the chemicals were ready, he started “dressing the set” so to speak. He changed the ride's audio to an unreleased demo from his band, and he made the ride animatronics look like killer clowns.
The guy was gonna be trapped and terrified, waiting for the “mystery killer” to strike. Because karma's a prick!
And for the finishing touch…wait, crap, he’d forgotten his own clown suit. This is why he wanted to plan this out!
No matter. He was at a carnival after hours, wasn't he? He could probably steal one from a dressing room.
He checked the time on his phone. He had two hours until his target would be in position.
Two hours to steal a costume and get to the therapist's office without being caught.
It was gonna be touch-and-go, but it would all be worth it when he’d finally rid the world of Dr. Ian Black.
