Utilizing Augmented Reality in Improving the Frustration Tolerance of ADHD Learners

Low frustration tolerance can obstruct a person to accomplish an activity or achieve a specified ... more Low frustration tolerance can obstruct a person to accomplish an activity or achieve a specified goal. Studies show that low frustration tolerance can be directly characterized to children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). This experimental study examined the use of Augmented Reality (AR) in improving frustration tolerance of ADHD learners. The researchers have conducted activity tasks using Mirror Tracing Persistence Task (MTPT) and Augmented Reality learning application to ADHD participants of the study. Results of the measured frustration tolerance of ADHD participants in the MTPT and AR sessions were used. Further, the time spent on each activity in the different setting by the participants were recorded for analysis. The use of AR can improve the frustration tolerance of the ADHD children was the hypothesis of the study. Favorably, the researchers found that there is a significant increase in the frustration tolerance in the implementation of an AR-based environment.

Undeniably, health and nutrition are one of the valuable aspects of life. Thus, technological innovations to help enhance and even promote health awareness is essential. With the advent of mobile computing, it is much easier to be aware of health information because of its mobility and availability. Much mobile application is being developed to serve as a tool for health monitoring and nutritional guide. Mobile applications have the ability to support health needs like detecting heart rate, classifying food, and many more. Taking advantage of technology, utilization of it hereby addresses certain issue and problems of human life, especially in health. In this study, the researcher's attempts to design and develop an Android-based food recognition application that could be used as a health awareness tool for non-health conscious individual. The application lets the user take the photo of the food and show its nutritional contents. Implementing Mifflin-St Jeor method in determining daily calorie consumption, users shall be aware of their required calorie intake. Moreover, the researchers' have studied its effect on people's health awareness on food nutrition by the randomly selected respondents. Finally, this paper presents an analysis of the impact of the food recognition app to change people's concept of food nutrition.

This study investigates the prevalence of Dunning-Kruger effect among students within the context... more This study investigates the prevalence of Dunning-Kruger effect among students within the contexts of a narrative-centered game-based learning environment. The game-based learning application for microbiology named Crystal Island was used to analyze student's in-game performance and behaviors. This study was participated by randomly selected (N=53) tertiary students of who were enrolled in a non-medical course. Beliefs on self-efficacy were collected through an adopted questionnaire to measure student's self-efficacy on science learning and computer gaming. Interaction logs from Crystal Island were used in the analysis. Our results show that on some aspects of student's self-efficacy measures, students had the tendency to inaccurately predict their actual performance while playing the game learning technology.

Whereas social learning is the ability of learner to grasp ideas shared by others and from a community of shared knowledge resources. The main objective of this study was to explore the impact of technology-mediated learning to the cognitive thinking of learners in terms of their ability to understand computer-assisted instructions, adopt new knowledge and apply mental activities and skills to perform reasoning and grasp what is being taught using the Student-Centered Learning Software (SCLS). Also, it aims to understand the impact of technology-mediated learning to social learning in terms of learner's ability to learn and perform activities with peers or in a group-related work. Experimental research was applied and a pre-tested questionnaire was used for data collection from 300 tertiary learners in 2 private universities in the Philippines. Using one-way ANOVA and regression analysis, study has revealed that with lower limit of 95% confidence level, the learner's frequency of use, time spent in taking activity and their level of understanding and comprehension have significant difference to their cognition where p=0.000<0.05. Whereas using T-test, learner's engagement to peer and group related activities has significant difference of pvalue<0.05 and variance=0.20 to their social learning. Thus, integration of SCLS may positively uphold active learning, increase cognitive thinking, stimulate enthusiasm and social learning. Hence, learner's interactivity to computer mediated technology may lead to a productive learning process.

Incidents vary based on the level of complication and severity. Most incidents are not reported to authorities to protect their identity, hence, excluding themselves during the investigation. In addition, the individual belief of the weak capability of the law in terms of investigation makes citizen ignore such incidents. Furthermore, the lack of interaction platform of the general public to law enforcer to report an incident is one of the main concern. Knowing this, this paper presents the development of a mobile application that will help individual to report an incident anonymously and conveniently without the hassle of going to police stations. It allows the police department to get information about the incident quickly through online reports, viewing the photos or videos of the incident along with the map, thus, responding to such cases will become easier and faster. Moreover, the police department can plot the statistic of incidents by looking at a graph, allowing them to decide which one will be prioritized to receive an immediate action. The application shall be used by the public in a specific area where the database was deployed in a certain police station.

Many of the social areas such as education has expanded its technological requirements to suit the needs of its clients. This study attempts to combine mobile into a game-based learning strategy enhancing the capacity of students to understand the OOP concepts and apply it with Java language. Further, the study is initiated by the researchers for the students to be acquainted with the latest technological advancement in relation to teaching and learning processes. The idea here is to provide a more playful and interactive learning experience to the students and give them a learning environment that they are all familiar.

The effects of using technology in education are still being pursued by professional educators in order to see its unique contribution in the students' learning. It is indeed that learners nowadays are considered to be the 21 st-century learners, where the use of technological advancements such as mobile phones, tablets and the use of internet technology has greatly influenced their learning habits. This is the reason why e-learning application have been proliferating over the education sector. This is to make some adjustments to cater the needs of the century learners, or the so-called technology learners. However, the actual effects of technology innovations on the learner's ability to understand and grasp better the topics in a lesson is still a query that is looking for an answer. The research paper has deliberately tried to explore if the use of multimedia technology as part of instruction can be an aid in leveling up the students' learning. Specifically, the paper has presented an experimental study on several groups of learners having considering the time of delivery of the instruction. The paper has compared traditional and technology-enabled instruction using post-tests relevant to the delivered lessons to the students where the duration of the delivery is being observed.

Learning becomes more innovative, portable, dynamic, interactive and collaborative through the advent of mobile devices and the aide of information technology. In this sense, the motivation to develop an application to be used in an information delivery mechanism is now embraced and adhered. The study is initiated by the researchers for the institution to acquire more expanded perspectives in terms of dealing with students not only in personal means but also through the use of technological tools specifically the mobile devices that are available nowadays. The idea here is to provide a more interactive, collaborative, communicative and dynamic system application that the student may feel more comfortable with the teachers of their courses. Making use of the devices that offers mobility, personalization and interactivity, the students of the institution shall learn, collaborate and adapt to learning activities anywhere and anytime.
