i’m not meant to be a chronically ill 25 year old in 2023, i’m meant to be a chronically ill 25 year old in 1823 who needs to frequently take to her bed due to having a “fragile constitution” (i.e. asbestos poisoning)

bong joon ho really said “here’s a story about how capitalism is designed to exploit the weak however it can. we must break the machine. those at the top cannot be reasoned with and have to be stopped by force. i know you feel expendable. they don’t care about you and will beat you into submission at a moment’s notice. you’re not expendable. our only way out is through compassion. im killing donald trump with a bomb. im showing you that someone will always love you. oh and here’s robert pattinson having sex with himself as a treat.”

I’d just like to clarify some things about Senator Cory Booker’s marathon Senate speech in protest of the present administration and everything they are doing to the American people.

Senator Booker was NOT allowed to sit down, eat, or use the bathroom during his speech. Sitting or leaving the room to use the bathroom would be considered yielding the floor. Eating would have interfered with his speaking and the person who has the senate floor must continue to speak, except when listening to questions that they will then answer.

He only took occasional sips of water.

The person who previously held the record for longest speech on the Senate floor did have bathroom breaks and also did things like read from the encyclopedia.

Senator Booker did not do that. His speech was to point out the damage that this administration is doing and he stayed on that subject.

Senator Booker’s speech did reach many people. It wasn’t a silly stunt that was done so that he could take the record for longest speech. He wanted to show the country that democrats will do something to bring attention to the problems we are facing. That democrats are listening to them.

Senator Cory Booker spoke for 25 hours and 4 minutes to “make good trouble.”

also like, a Black man breaking Strom Thurmond’s record is absolutely *chef’s kiss*

for those who are too young to know about Strom, he was literally a white supremacist

He trained himself to give this speech by practicing and then implementing limits on food and water intake leading up to this. He cut out food for days, then cut out water the day before.

He then went to do an appearance on Maddow after yielding.

Third Tails is Valiant Tails. I just love this skin; he looks really cute in that suit of armor. I skipped adding the thicker outline because it’s getting kind of late for me, so it’ll be added later in the full finished image with color and shading alongside the other Tailses I’m doing. Also, the pose is kind of basic, but like, I couldn’t fight the feeling that he’d look really cute doing that, and I think I’m right.

Happy International Asexuality Day!!! 🖤🩶🤍💜

foldingfittedsheets:

I went on an adventure today to return a pillow to IKEA with my coworker Astrid.

We were having a nice day and got stuck in traffic coming home. On the way her phone rang and she was driving so she declined the call with a sigh. “I feel so bad for him,” she said.

“You know that number?”

She did. It turns out her phone number had previously belonged to a woman named Serena. The man calling was her dad. He had Alzheimer’s and didn’t remember his daughter was dead, so he just called the number he knew was hers.

I was stricken to hear this. “Do you talk to him?”

“Yeah. Sometimes he thinks I’m her and we talk. I have a notebook with facts I’ve learned about her so I can connect with him better. Sometimes he knows I’m not her and I say I’m her friend.”

I struggled with the beauty and humanity of this for a moment. “What’s his name?”

“I don’t know; I just call him Dad.”

We sat in silence and I was overwhelmed with feelings. That she was so kind and thoughtful about this random connection. A man who called and spoke to her with love for the daughter he missed.

“One time,” she added, “he called me just after I had a difficult day with my mom. I knew Serena and her mom had a rocky relationship so I talked to him about my frustrations with my own mother and he gave the following advice: ‘Everyone fails sometimes, even parents; what’s important is to communicate with our loved ones, even when it’s difficult.’

“I have never forgotten that advice and it healed a portion of my heart.”
