Considering the lack of interaction and feedback process of the pre-class component of the flippe... more Considering the lack of interaction and feedback process of the pre-class component of the flipped learning approach, in this research this component was designed with the community of inquiry model and an e-learning environment was developed in line with the model's theoretical framework. By exposing its impacts on students' development of critical thinking skills and social, teaching and cognitive presences, this study aimed to determine the working and failing aspects of this learning approach. In this study, in which repeated measures design was used, the study group consisted of 35 undergraduate students studying at a state university. Scales were used to measure students' critical thinking strategies and their perceived presences, and the forum tool was used to collect student posts. The implementation process lasted for 15 weeks. Findings demonstrated that it was possible to eliminate the lack of the interaction and feedback processes, and to develop students' critical thinking strategies and their perceptions of teaching, social and cognitive presences, by designing the pre-class component of the flipped learning approach with the community of inquiry framework. Additionally, it was discovered that the critical thinking strategy had a positive and significant link with how the community of inquiry was perceived, and that this relationship accounted for 60% of the variance in the perception of community of inquiry. The study's conclusions are supported by recommendations for future research.

The contribution of education to the development of societies is recognized by many educators and... more The contribution of education to the development of societies is recognized by many educators and politicians. However, the contribution of education to the development level of a society is related to the quality of education offered in that society. In other words, quality is of great importance for education to fulfill its function in social development. The role of STEM education in the training of qualified 21st century citizens and meeting the demand of qualified employees in the business world has brought the country's to update their education systems. Many countries have combined the work of education ministries and government agencies, business and industry, professional organizations, science centers, community organizations and thirdlevel institutions and established nationwide STEM policies. In this study, the state of STEM policy documents of United States of America, Australia, the United Kingdom and Ireland were examined. According to the results obtained from this study, it's possible to state that Turkey's culture, academic programs, the budget allocated for education, other support mechanisms etc. differ from these countries. In a STEM policy to be identified for Turkey, efforts from other ministries, industry, business and the contributions of civil society organizations will be needed aside from Ministry of Education's efforts. Suggestions were also provided for possible STEM policies to be identified for Turkey.

Bu amaçla tarama yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın çalışma grubunu ölçekleri çevrimiçi ortamda yanıtlayan, Türkiye'de lisans veya lisansüstü düzeyde öğrenim görmekte olan 1006 öğrenci oluşturmaktadır. Öğrencilerin çevrimiçi bilgi arama stratejilerini ölçmek için “Çevrimiçi Bilgi Arama Stratejileri Envanteri” kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın sonuçları, öğrencilerin çevrimiçi bilgi arama stratejilerinin gelişmişlik düzeyi bakımından kendilerini orta düzeyde yeterli gördüklerini göstermiştir. Bu çalışma yansıtıcı düşünme becerilerini harekete geçirecek, becerilerin kullanılmasını ve geliş... more Bu çalışma yansıtıcı düşünme becerilerini harekete geçirecek, becerilerin kullanılmasını ve geliştirilmesini sağlayacak bir çevrimiçi ortam oluşturmak ve bu ortamın etkililiğini incelemek üzere gerçekleştirilmiştir. Sınıf yönetimi ders içeriğine göre hazırlanan bu araştırmada nicel ve nitel yöntemlerin birlikte kullanıldığı karma desenlerden açımlayıcı sıralı desen kullanılmıştır. Uygulama sürecine başlamadan önce 12 üniversite öğrencisi ile araştırmanın pilot uygulaması gerçekleştirilmiştir. Pilot uygulama sonuçlarına göre çevrimiçi ortamın öğrencilerin yansıtıcı düşünebilme becerilerini geliştirebileceğine dair ipuçları elde edilmiştir. Pilot uygulama sonunda öğrencilerden alınan görüşler doğrultusunda çevrimiçi ortamda düzenlemeler yapılmış ve düzenlenen yeni çevrimiçi ortam, araştırmaya gönüllü katılan 30 üniversite öğrencisi üzerinde yeniden sınanmıştır. 30 öğrenciden toplanan nicel ve nitel veriler analiz 1 IX. Uluslararası Bilgisayar ve Öğretim Teknolojileri Eğitimi Sempozyumu'nda sunulan bildirinin gözden geçirilmiş ve genişletilmiş halidir.

Bu çalışmanın amacı lisansüstü öğrencilerin çevrim-içi bilgi arama stratejilerini cinsiyet, İnternet kullanma deneyimi, bilgisayar kullanma düzeyi ve bilgisayar ve İnterneti öncelikli olarak kullanma amacı değişkenleri açısından incelemektir. Abstract Using Internet is a difficult and complex process because it includes searching of different types of content when navigating. Therefore, it could be claimed that it is important to have basic knowledge about searching strategies in this complex system. Thus it is important to evaluate cognitive and metacognitive strategies users need to have. The purpose of this study was to examine online information searching strategies of graduate students in terms of gender, Internet use experience, level of computer usage and the primary purpose of using computer and Internet variables. Usability:
With the help of proliferation of the tools that can be used, the concept of usability gained traction. ISO (International Organization for Standardization) defined usability as the extent to which a product ensures effectiveness, efficiency, and satisfaction in a specified context of use for achieving specified goals by specified users (ISO 9241-11, 1998). Likewise, Shneiderman and Plaisant (2004) focused more on efficiency and satisfaction components of usability. They explained the concept of usability with the time required for users to learn system to successfully carry out a specified task, retention of the information learnt during the interaction with the system, performance of the system, mistakes made by users, and users’ subjective satisfaction level. In usability studies, many different methods such as participatory-based design, expert evaluation, think aloud procedure, scales, and eye-tracking are used (Yeniad, Mazman, Tüzün, & Akbal, 2011).
