Dinner dress British, silk. 1820. Met museum. Fantastic stripe pattern, used to emphasise the shape on the bodice. Is it poss to be bold and understated at the same time? The bark blue stipe emph the vertical fall of the skirt against the dark ground.The alternating white flower motif breaks this - creating subtle diagonal lines that moves around the skirt.
