Bystander Effect:  The tendency of others not to help as the perceived number of onlookers increases.  In researching into this topic, I have found that in sober populations men and women are treated equal in this response.  However, mix in alcohol and the number of men that will help a woman in distress decreases dramatically.  I wonder if any of the other myriad ethnic, sexual orientation, racial, cultural, etc factors might also influence bystander response?  Probably.
