I thought this fella might be Cotinis nitida but alas, it is not. Back to searching... It's a Rose Chaffer (Cetonia aurata) :)

Such a beautiful, licheny green to this moth, known as The Joker (Feralia jocosa). I haven't been able to figure out the story behind the common name. I know jocosa means "playful" but this species never seems particularly playful when I encounter it (in fact specimens seem docile and stay quite still) :-). Maybe someone else out there knows?

This guy is just 5 minutes old. I released him when his neon green wings and disco gold body hardened, turning to a dark brown and bronze-green. The cicadas are a superfamily, the Cicadoidea, of insects in the order Hemiptera. They are in the suborder Auchenorrhyncha, along with smaller jumping bugs such as leafhoppers and froghoppers
