This sky-blue stone is a rockhound's dream, and you won't find it anywhere except one spot in Michigan.

150 year Lake Michigan beach-tumbled slag glass specimens. Created during the iron smelting / purification process of the mid 19th century. The main impurity in the raw iron was silica (glass). The iron was melted using the intense heat of a hardwood fired blast furnace. The slag floated to the top and was skimmed off and discarded in the big lake. It has tumbled in the waves for over a century.

Leland Blue stones were born over 100 years ago in the fires of the Leland Lake Superior Iron Company.
