St Clare was born in 1194 to a noble and rich family. At the age of 15, she was deeply moved by the preaching of St Francis and wanted to imitate him and serve Jesus. She ran away from home, when she was 18 and wen to a little chapel outside of Assisi. St. Francis cut her hair and gave her a rough bait to wear. Her parents came to take her away but she clung to the altar of the church and would not leave.
