This summer, we attended the National Whole Brain Teaching Conference in Pineville, Louisiana. It was an experience we won't soon forget! Three other teachers were crazy enough to go with us, and we had an absolute BLAST!!!! We have be dabbling in Whole Brain concepts, but have never jumped in with both feet. At the…

Current Super Improver Wall Super Improver Wall in August Let's just say this is the best thing I've ever implemented in my classroom! It comes from the Whole Brain Teaching book. I run the template above on the correlating color copy/construction paper. All my students started off with a white sheet of paper and they have to earn 10 stickers (the mini chart stickers you can find at the teacher store) to level up to the next color. Oh my word, this class! I've been teaching 18 years and this group is NOT SO SILENTLY killing me! They are spirited. They are charismatic. They are individuals. They are lively. Oh yea. They are all those things. And they are....chatty. Wow! Are they ever chatty! You know it's bad when parent volunteers come in and as they leave say, "I don't know how you do this every day. This group is a handful." Or you pick them up from a special and you say to the specialist, "I know, I know, don't even…

Teach! Okay! is a fabulous way to reinforce concepts and ideas throughout the lesson. This practice combines seeing, saying, hearing, and doing. It gets students involved and talking. One thing I've noticed is that teachers TALK A LOT! If we can transfer some of that speech to our students, they can take more control of their learning. Plus, it sticks in their little brains better.
