I would like to preface this review by saying that these games have a very special place in my heart. I used to hate Pokemon (I could not tell you why) and I refused to play any of the games. But then, my little sister got Pokemon X, and after seeing the game had roller skates, I changed my mind instantly. So we went out to Target and got me Pokemon Y, and I absolutely loved it. Kalos is home to a TON of my favorite pokemon (the Florges line especially!!!), and I still adore the region itself.
That being said, I still love these games, but they're not the masterpieces I saw them as when I was a kid. The story and characters feel more like a skeleton of a narrative. These games could have been so good, but instead they just feel shallow.
Otherwise, I still adore the energy of these games. The overworld models are a favorite of mine, and my character looks absolutely adorable! The character creation is slightly limited, but not to the point where it was super noticeable. Also! Pokemon-Amie! I love being able to play with my pokemon!!! (Pokemon refresh does do it way better though ngl)
All in all, I still love these games with my whole heart, but I recognize that they're not the best games in this franchise. Here's hoping legends Z-A gives us a good Kalos game!!!

a realm reborn has its good moments but i think a big thing is that it pushes the actual plot to the side to do worldbuilding. and its not a bad thing that the world the game takes place in is so diverse and detailed, but it gets a bit much when you're trying to convey all of it to the player. honestly i think arr and maybe ffxiv would've benefited from the ffxiii system of just not really explaining it but having an ingame database of all the terms and the story so far. (i know they did actually add something like that a couple years ago but you get what i mean.) otherwise yeah my opinion from a year ago probably hasn't changed much. its arr what can i say
