This study focused on the effect of spindle speed and traveler weight on the tensile properties o... more This study focused on the effect of spindle speed and traveler weight on the tensile properties of 21s Ne 100% cotton carded ring spun yarns. A set of five different traveler weights and three different spindle speeds were used for ring spinning of 21's Ne 100% cotton yarn under working conditions so as to optimize these two parameters for spinning carded ring-spun yarns good tenacity. The 21's Ne 100% cotton carded ring-spun yarns thus produced were tested for their tensile properties such as tenacity and breaking elongation using ASTM standards. The results showed that the combination of 13000 rpm spindle speed and the traveler weight of 45mg produced the optimum tenacity ring spun yarns.

Though cotton knitted fabrics can provide better comfort, their physical appearance and service life are affected by many factors, and they have a propensity for pilling, abrasion and snagging. The main goal of this research work was to investigate the effect of yarn parameters on the abrasion, pilling and snagging resistance of halfbleached knitted fabrics. Six knitted fabrics were manufactured from 100% cotton carded ring yarn with a linear density of 21, 25, and 30 tex, with two yarn twist levels for each linear density. Except for yarn linear density and twist, the remaining yarn and machine parameters were constant, including fabric manufacturing. The knitted fabrics were treated using a half-bleach treatment before property evaluation. The results showed that knitted fabric made from a finer count of 21 tex with a higher yarn twist of 920 m −1 had the highest mass loss ratio of 2.12-10.76%, and the lowest abrasion resistance of 89-97.88% between 5,000 to 20000 abrasion cycles. The highest abrasion resistance of 96.4-98.9% (mass loss ratio of 1-3.5%) was recorded for a single jersey knitted fabric made from coarser yarn (30 tex) with the lower twist of 826 m −1. The abrasion resistance of knitted fabrics was significantly affected by the thickness of the fabric, while regression analysis proved that fabric thickness and mass loss ratio had very good correlation, with an adjusted R 2 value of 93.8%. The snagging resistance of knitted fabrics increased as yarn twist and fineness increased. Pilling propensity increased as yarn linear density increased and twist decreased. Linear regression results revealed that yarn linear density and twist were highly correlated to abrasion resistance (mass loss method) at an adjusted R 2 value of 98.6% or 0.986 after 20,000 rubs.

Washing fastness is one of the most desired factors to aesthetic value of cloth. Color of garment... more Washing fastness is one of the most desired factors to aesthetic value of cloth. Color of garments can be deformed and changed due to various reasons. This kind of fading or change in the depth of shade leads the users very unsatisfied. Due to this, to study the reason of low washing fastness or color fading is very important. In the present work the effect of sunlight on color fastness to washing rate of different fabrics was studied. Seven different woven and knitted fabrics; 100% cotton, 100% polyester, polyestercotton, polyester-viscose and polyester-wool blended fabrics were used for this study. Each of the fabric was divided into two groups and colorfastness to washing was done before and after sunlight exposure. In case of fabric exposed to direct sunlight for different set of times, each fabric was tested for washing fastness. The half of those fabrics was directly tested for wash fastness without exposing to direct Sunlight. Both groups of tests were done as per ES ISO 105-C10:2016 standard. This investigation has shown that except polyester-viscose and polyester fabrics, all other samples wash fastness dropped significantly in terms of ratting digital grade as the exposure time has increased.

The results showed that both yarn hairiness and the yarn twist of the yarn spun are considerably affected by both spindle speed and traveler weight. `

Eight yarns were manufactured from 30Tex with four yarn twist increments (700, 740, 780 and 820TPM), and 15Tex with twist levels of 900, 1020, 1080 and 1140TPM (turns/meter). Except yarn count and twist level, the yarns were made from the same fiber properties and machine settings. Yarn mechanical properties such as tensile strength, elongation and abrasion resistance, evenness (CVm) and imperfection characteristics like hairiness, neps, thin and thick places were measured and statistically analyzed. Equations were developed to predict the desired mechanical, evenness, and imperfection properties of yarns based on yarn count and twist levels. In this paper, labour and machine productivity are studied, and the results are compared with SITRA standard 2010 for measuring productivity. The study is based on primary and secondary data collected from the case factories at the same period of time. Data is analysed based on the South India Textile and Research Association standard for spinning mills. According to the institute, labour productivity indices are the number of operative hours required to produce 100 kgs of yarn (HOK), operatives per 1000 spindles (OHS), and composite productivity index (CPI). Machine productivity indices are production per spindle (P), spindle utilization (SH), and machine productivity index (MPI). Primary data were collected through observation, personal and telephone interviews. Besides, secondary data were compiled from company documents and research institutes. The data were analyzed using simple statistical tools and inductive and deductive reasoning. The major findings are: the cultivated land is 3.7% with a productivity of 19.8 ql/ha; the combined ginning capacity is 1,031 ton/day; the daily performance of spinning mills is 386.4 ton and the capacity of composite and knitting mills is 578,576 meters per day of fabric. The trend indicates that there is a negative trade balance. Despite these facts, there is a large area of land suitable for cotton cultivation, tremendous trainable labor force and a conducive policy for the expansion of textile industry.
