Bot policy

[uah wit]

Halo:

To facilitate steward granting of bot access, I suggest implementing the standard bot policy on this wiki. In particular, this policy allows stewards to automatically flag known interlanguage linking bots (if this page says that is acceptable), which form the vast majority of such requests. The policy also enables global bots on this wiki (if this page says that is acceptable), which are trusted bots that will be given bot access on every wiki that allows global bots.

This policy makes bot access requesting much easier for local users, operators, and stewards. To implement it we only need to create a redirect to this page (or if you will have a dedicated page to process bot requests, to that page instead) from Project:Bot policy, and add a line at the top noting that it is used here. Please read the text at m:Bot policy before commenting. If you object, please say so; I hope to implement it soon if there is no objection, since it is particularly written to streamline bot requests on wikis with little or no community interested in bot access requests.

Terima kasih.,

Hi @MarcoAurelio:, Nice info. I will try to contact our community. Invited to discuss @Wirjadisastra, Wandering ant, Siti Noviali, Luh Gedé Krismayanti, Kadek Ayu Sulastri, Eka343, Dcljr, lan Jon Harald Søby:. Love to hear your voices here guys. Joseagush (pabligbagan) 20 Oktober 2019 11.03 (WITA)[wales]

Thank you. As you can see at this table the policy is used in hundreds of projects already. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. Regards, --MarcoAurelio (pabligbagan) 20 Oktober 2019 17.14 (WITA)[wales]
I would recommend you adopt the standard bot policy, it is a good solution for smaller wikis. As you can see from the table MarcoAurelio linked. From my experience in the Norwegian Bokmål Wikipedia I can't remember us ever having any significant problem with any bot allowed under this policy, so I think it has worked very well so far. Jon Harald Søby (pabligbagan) 20 Oktober 2019 19.48 (WITA)[wales]
Yes, I agreed too. Its easier to many people to join our community if user Bot also can be used in this wiki. As you can see, one of our community bot already active. See this Cahyobot contribution for example. My little concern is in that table ban.wiki seems not yet get the list/approved policy. --Joseagush (pabligbagan) 20 Oktober 2019 22.27 (WITA)[wales]

Thank you for your possitive reply to my proposal. I'll see if I can implement the policy today or in the next couple of days. I don't think we need to wait more given that this is a newly created wiki and all active editors are supporting adopting the mentioned policy. Where do you want to have bot requests discussed? On this page or do you intend to create a new page for that? Regards, --MarcoAurelio (pabligbagan) 22 Oktober 2019 16.55 (WITA)[wales]

No problem to wait until Oct, 31 as stated below. --MarcoAurelio (pabligbagan) 22 Oktober 2019 16.57 (WITA)[wales]
Just for the record, I am not voting below since I don't consider myself a "member of the community" (I don't read or speak Balinese, so I'm editing here as an "outsider".) Once things settle down, I probably won't be editing here anymore. But FWIW, I have no objection to the standard bot policy. [grin] - dcljr (pabligbagan) 23 Oktober 2019 12.29 (WITA)[wales]

I am not sure how we can implement the bot policy as soon as possible. I think we can open vote for this here for at least a week timeframe. Lets say this vote remain open until 31 October 2019.

Final steps making this a working standalone wiki

[uah wit]

I have been commenting at Pabligbagan:Kaca Utama (the equivalent of "Talk:Main_Page") up until now. I guess I really should be posting stuff like this here (reserving the other talk page for discussion of the "Kaca Utama" page itself). Anyway…

  1. Wikidata support has been enabled for this wiki, giving it shiny new interlanguage links on relevant pages.
    • See, for example, the sidebar on the left side of this page: at the bottom of the sidebar it lists links to Village Pumps on Wikipedias in several other languages (the list just looks like names of different languages, but if you "hover" on one, you should be able to see the relevant page title — and, of course, if you follow the link, well, you'll see where you end up).
    • "Manually" maintaining lists of interlanguage links on individual pages here is now unnecessary. They can be removed (like this).
    • If removing the interlanguage links from a page results in no interlanguage links being shown on the page, then you will need to add the page to the appropriate Wikidata item. Go back to the version of the page that had interlanguage links (this can be done through the page history — you don't have to revert the edit in which you removed the interlanguage links, assuming you already made such an edit). Follow one of the interlanguage links. (You might want to copy the page title before you navigate away from the page, because you'll need it later.) This should take you to a page on that language's Wikipedia. Locate the "Wikidata item" link in the sidebar and follow it (note that this text may be localized to appear in the language of the wiki itself). Find the "Wikipedia" box where language codes and article titles in those languages are listed. Check that "ban" isn't already listed (it shouldn't be). Follow the "edit" link at the top of the box. Use "ban" for the wiki name and the appropriate Balinese page title for the page name (or just paste in the title you copied earlier, if you did that). If you don't see an "edit" link it's because the Wikidata item page has been locked. In that case, leave a message on the talk/discussion page requesting that someone add an entry for "ban". (For help editing Wikidata, see d:Wikidata:Tours for an interactive guide to editing or d:Help:Sitelinks for standard help-page style documentation.)
    • If a page here has never had any interlanguage links and you think it should, find an equivalent page on, say, the English Wikipedia (or some other large Wikipedia) and find the "Wikidata item" link in the sidebar. Then follow the instructions in the previous bullet-point.
  2. The visual editor should now work because Parsoid has been updated to work with this wiki.
    • Can someone verify this? (I don't use it myself, so I'd rather not try to test it out.)

Let me know if something else isn't working. - dcljr (pabligbagan) 23 Oktober 2019 12.35 (WITA)[wales]

Yuhuu, finally. Thank you very much. I think better the community try it first. Just for sure there is no glitch or bug. If you go to Bali let me know. I owe you beers.. Thanks. Joseagush (pabligbagan) 23 Oktober 2019 15.28 (WITA)[wales]

Hi @Dcljr:, I think i found one thing which not working. Any Gadgets still not working until now (etc. Wikied, HotCat, etc.). What is the problem? Should I mention it in Wikimedia Phab? Thanks. Joseagush (pabligbagan) 1 Nopémber 2019 14.19 (WITA)[wales]

According to the information at mw:Extension:Gadgets, it looks like an "interface editor" is needed to both create gadget pages and enable their use, since both actions seem to require edits to the "MediaWiki:" namespace. I've asked for help with this at m:Steward requests/Miscellaneous#Help needed enabling gadgets on banwiki (since there doesn't seem to be a dedicated page for interface-editor requests). Hopefully someone will comment here soon. In the meantime, it would probably be a good idea to make a list of exactly which gadgets you want to use here. - dcljr (pabligbagan) 1 Nopémber 2019 16.05 (WITA)[wales]
