Elderly women are an extremely important demographic for feminism. If a woman cannot be childless and then live comfortably taken care of in her old age, then there is still coercive incentive for children. Social security and elderly womens programs are very important.

“The orphaned elderly” is terminology used in the elder law field to describe those who, due to a lack of younger family members/or lack of relationship with said family members, find themselves in precarious positions as they age and need more support both financially and physically.

I was just watching a video earlier on the amount of women confessing they only had kids more than once because they realized people in their life would care about their health and well-being while they were pregnant. Their survival mattered in the context of motherhood.

The problem is that we think the opposite of funny is serious. It is not. In fact, as G. K. Chesterton pointed out, the opposite of funny is not funny, and the opposite of serious is not serious. Benny Hill was funny and not serious; Rory Bremner is funny and serious; most politicians are serious but, unfortunately, not funny. Humour has its uses. Laughter can get through the keyhole while seriousness is still hammering on the door. New ideas can ride in on the back of a joke, old ideas can be given an added edge.
