A bit of a hot take??? I really hope future Sonic games start looking at Sonic Boom for character animation references. And no, I don't mean the show.
I think we're at a point when we can look past all the bugs and glitches this game had at release (if you'd had the opportunity to play it recently you'd see that, while there's still bugs, they barely affect the gameplay anymore, which is a HUGE step from when it was first released), and look at the art in it. While there's a lot I love about Sonic Boom aesthetically, I want to focus on the characters animation, especially in cutscenes.
I'm not exaggerating when I say I think this game has better facial animation than any other Sonic game, and while Sonic Frontiers was a step in the right direction, I don't think it compares to Sonic Boom and I do mean that in all honesty.
Here I put together just a FEW examples of how expressive the characters are in this game:
LOOK AT HOW EXPRESSIVE THEY ALL ARE! HOW NATURALLY THEIR BODIES MOVE WITH THEIR ACTIONS! HOW THEY INTERACT WITH EACH OTHER WITHOUT SAYING ANYTHING AT ALL! HOW WE CAN SEE THEIR THOUGHT PROCESS HAPPENING IN THEIR HEAD!! THIS IS WHAT I WANT TO SEE IN FUTURE SONIC GAMES!!!
This is truly the best I've seen of these characters in games!!! And I really hope we can move in this direction from here!! I just love how much personality they have in this game, not only in their dialogue, but also represented by their body language. Like I said, Sonic Frontiers was a good step towards this, but I would really like if we stopped focusing on just the bugs this game has, and paid attention to some of the great decisions the developers made! There's so much to be rescued from this almost completely ignored game, and I would love to go back to this style of animation in the future.
Also I love the vibes of this universe and the character designs because they all look so different from each other and there's more diversity in the body types and all but that's not the point of this post NSKZNSNXNSMX

getting really sick and tired of the increasingly common attitude in the Tumblr Sonic fandom that shitting on and straight up attacking fans of the IDW Sonic comics makes you a "better fan" than they are because "the comics clearly don't care about accurate lore or characters, so the people who enjoy them aren't real fans."
like, listen to me: if the comics "didn't care" about accuracy, SEGA wouldn't allow them to be published at all. if they "didn't respect the source material," SEGA would have revoked their licensing rights years ago. they explicitly have to approve everything that IDW puts out, therefore making it canon. SEGA believes it respects their IP and reflects canon, so they approved it.
you're free to disagree about the quality of the comics. you're free to dislike them. that's completely fine! you are allowed to have your opinions! hell, i have friends who hate the comics but are happy that i have gotten so much joy out of them. we are able to remain close friends despite this difference in opinions because, shockingly... we are mature adults!
what isn't fine is harassing and abusing the people who do like them. making new accounts and dodging blocks so you can go into people's inboxes to verbally abuse them for liking the comics is incredibly fucking childish. telling people that they're "ruining the fandom" because they "don't care about or respect canon" is awful. accusing other fans of being responsible for "dragging the franchise down and making the games worse" (whatever the fuck that means) & telling them "the sonic community would be better off without you" is abusive behavior. and finally, insulting their intelligence & calling them derogatory slurs for enjoying the comics is just straight-up bigotry.
this kind of behavior might fly on twitter, but the tumblr side of the fandom is usually better than this. stop justifying abusive, toxic, hateful behavior as "just having opinions" and "defending the source material." harassment is never acceptable. if someone has an opinion you disagree with, then just block and move on like a fucking adult. god. just leave people alone. it really isn't hard.

When writing always remember… a character flaw is only a flaw until becomes useful.
Is your protagonist manipulative? Well that’s awful… until they manipulate the antagonist into making a decision that saves the lives of their friends.
Is your protagonist a skeptic? Well that’s not good… until someone tries to lie to them.
Is your protagonist overprotective? That sucks… until someone they love is in danger.
Is your protagonist remorseless? Well that makes them pretty unlikeable… until a hard decision has to be made.
-
The flipside is also true!
Your protagonist is honest? That’s good… until their survival depends on them being able to lie convincingly.
Your protagonist is brave? That’s good… until they foolishly run headlong into danger without a thought for the consequences.
Your protagonist is forgiving and able to see good in everyone? That’s good… until they continually forgive someone who doesn’t deserve it, and get taken advantage of because they can’t fathom that some people just suck.
Your protagonist is funny? That’s good… until they piss off everyone around them because they don’t seem to be taking the situation seriously, and they keep avoiding dealing with their problems by hiding behind humor.
Most personality traits aren’t inherently good or bad. It’s all about context, and how far they go.
