fucking around, finding out, never learning my lesson.
talk to me about creepy things. (innocent reasons I swear.)

it is very strange to be doing this, because for all the jokes about how you can never leave this place I think a part of me kind of believed it. but here we are! I am leaving Tumblr.

simply put, I’ve outgrown the place. I made this blog in August 2011, when I was 19 years old. (this is absolutely insane to think about, because looking back at that age now is like imagining a baby slapping at the keys and drooling.) since that summer, Tumblr was a constant part of my life for over a decade, and that is absolutely incredible. I am sincerely happy to find myself looking back at all this with a lot of good feeling – for all my frustrations about this place, I really loved my time here. I met a lot of awesome people, and my life took incredible directions that it would not have taken if not for this website. I used this blog to record my life almost every day for over a decade, and it makes for an incomparable record. despite my criticisms of the site, overall I had a good time here. I’m sad to see it go, but I’m happy to leave while my memories are still fond instead of clinging on to nostalgia and overstaying my welcome.

this is a clean break – I am not on any other social media and I will not be leaving contact information. I have simply outgrown social media in general, I think, and I now have so much going on in my real life that I no longer have the time or the inclination. but I wanted to say a proper goodbye, and I wanted to say a genuine thank you for the good times. you guys have been here through a lot, and you’ve made me laugh probably more than any other place on the internet. I’ve been through some really rough times and you have helped me out with kind words and spare cash. you’ve supported my writing, encouraged my complete inability to shut up, and shared with me your passions, your interests, your worries, and your humour. I’m going to miss this place a lot, but it is time to move on.

so. read books, kick ass, take risks, log off every once in a while, think for yourself, don’t sweat the shit that doesn’t matter in the long run, and don’t forget to fucking indulge. farewell, and thanks for a lot of highly cursed memories that will probably have me collapsing into totally inexplicable laughter for decades to come. you fucking freaks.

think the biggest divide between casual users and people who know even a crumb of information about tech is the attitude to smart devices and AI. casual users are like oh this is useful or oh a chatbot how cute whereas anyone who’s ever done anything with tech is ripping all that shit out of their homes like they’re fighting for their lives against HAL 9000

happy valentine’s day to all who observe. and for those who don’t happy palentine’s day. and for those who don’t do that either sorry about that. happy stay in bed day i guess

not that there’s any GOOD time to get a migraine but I think that the week where I have a flat inspection, a 10 hour drive, and socialising for almost three solid weeks (some of which will be done in a second language) is especially cruel. I picked up some loose papers in the hallway and now I’m all tuckered out :( (I have been awake for 10 minutes.)
