i know it's not your responsibility to educate people, but i'm having a really hard time understanding the terms tma/tme, and all the definitions i've found aren't explaining it in a way that helps me understand. are they terms specifically for transfems ? if someone is transmasc should they use tme ?
TMA: transmisogyny-affected, i.e. the primary & intended targets of transmisogyny as a social force / structure. essentially means trans women and transfems.
TME: transmisogyny-exempt, i.e. not the primary or intended targets of transmisogyny. this means everybody who isn’t a transfem. that includes cis men & women, trans men & transmasculine people, and any nonbinary people who are not transfem.
these terms are for general use and are not offensive or stigmatizing, and they are not a shorthand or reproduction of any other set of binary terms, as some people would have you believe. you will see people who hate trans women express opposition to the use of these terms in all kinds of bad faith ways, because what they fundamentally don’t like is the idea of trans women being able to identify themselves as a political class and organize for political liberation.
i hope this helps, and thanks for giving a shit
