Aniara

Aniara

Ambitious, ruthless, pessimistic. Oh look if it isn’t the consequences of our actions… god I hope we don’t get here but on my worst days I think it is inevitable. It is completely believable that we'd get to this level of technology without learning a goddamn thing.

It's basically an extended meditation on going to Mars, which is no place for us in numbers, and anybody who tries to sell colonising Mars as a aspirational or even reasonable goal for humanity is an idiot who doesn't care to understand what it means to be one of the residents of Earth. As Aniara shows us, it is fundamental to our fibres and we cannot exist apart from it with any type of life that makes sense. Seriously, Mars has lost its magnetosphere. It is well along in the process of dying, with any life it might have had already gone.

At the very beginning, when the mom said for her child to mimic, “Hej då, jorden!” Perfectly blithe.
