This is genuinely one of the most inspiring & creative pieces of film I’ve watched. It was wholesome, whimsical & made me feel all the feels, in all the right places. I couldn’t help but smile throughout 🩷✨
Set-dressed to the nines, it's a little bit "pilot for radical CBBC show on gender acceptance set to get the Daily Mail's panties in a knot", but good-humoured and imaginative with it; the central brother-sister relationship is especially well drawn.

the fact that me and my dad are in this for 2 seconds may just be something i am still harping on about till the end of time. the score is sooo magical and as of 2023 am a die hard mary in junkyard fan so it’s always great to here clari work her magic wherever possible. fei liu is as fantabulous as the film promises (my mum is still upset that herbie was snubbed of best actor). i looove how this film is shot and the colours trulyy pop. and it will never fail to astound me how emmanuel makes you care for characters you’ve only been with for 10 minutes, which not many other…
All magic tricks are founded in belief, but more specifically, all of them are linked to who it is you're believing in. Life is disappointing, and the future (even for a clairvoyant) is worryingly uncertain, so the only way forward is to find the people worth sticking with, reaching out to, and doing right by. The warm-hearted punk spirit of this reminded me a lot of Nida Manzoor's Lady Parts, and as with that short, I think there's far too much potential here to not return to this world in some form. The sibling relationship, and the character of Fei Liu in general, are so well-drawn and easy to spend time with, and breath so much life into this lovely, imaginative tale.

super charming & warm. the relationship and live between fei & steph was lovely to see on-screen & had the right amount of depth in such a short film
this felt very imperfect but it was fun and i feel warmly towards it

Love the idea of a sardonic, surreally comedic exploration of queer/trans diasporic identity, (rather than the routinely saccharine, un-self-aware myth-making that is endemic to the genre) but the tone of this is extremely Channel 4 comedy pilot for an un-produced series (not necessarily derogatory), and the acting is not good.
Fei's character is so charismatic, that "what if I don't want to give them the satisfaction" line was so kunttt yea imma need a part 2
Nice lil hidden gem of a short, this! Lovely set and costume design especially- maybe a bit too hammy at points when it didn’t feel entirely intentional, but the emotional beats and intended silliness landed for me so it’s aaaaaall gravy in my books. A good lil watch!
Watching the Iris Prize Nominee's from 2023. (On Channel 4 for UK people)
Quirky and warm, I could have watched more. Loved the tricks and the set decoration.
