The Driver was such an enjoyably lean crime thriller, hard-boiled and distilled to the bare essentials of the genre. No filler, no names, just illegal jobs, clashing personalities, and cool skillful confidence. I love how physical classic car chases feel: the screeching tires and smoke in their wake, the thumping suspensions, the click-clack of shifting gears, the heavy bumps when cars clash and bash against each other.
